  1. Re:Speed Is Relative on AMD64 Windows vs. Fedora vs. SuSE benchmarks · · Score: 1

    > Besides, 64 being twice 32 justifies the upgrade cost... Depends on your needs of a computer - 99.99% of computer users have absolutely no need of a 64bit environment. Yet. But then MS are saying that they expect the average computer running Longhorn to have a dual 64bit system. At the current rate of growth in speeds of computers, I cannot see how this change will occur before Longhorn finally arrives.

What factor of raw "speed" faster would a 64bit processor be over a standard 32bit processor of the same clock-speed. Do you think that is is currently economically viable for any purchases at all to be made of 64 bit computers other than for the stasis that comes with it: "I've got a 64 bit computer, ner :P"

At the young (like, naive young) age of about 6 or 7 I was trying to free some disk space on my computer (I think it was Win 3.1 or something) through dos. I was in /Windows and saw this folder called .. and I didn't know what it was. deltree .. (or something similar - I don't know dos commands like I did then ;)) was soon on its way through the computer. I never have told my dad that. The one advantage was that it led from an upgrade from a Pentium 486 (whatever) to a *gasp* 233mHz
