I worked for Boeing for almost 30 years but had to retire because my wife was extremely ill. She required constant care for 6 months. After around 6 months she was recovered enough I could have gone back to work and got a call from Boeing asking me to come back for an interesting software job. If it wasn't for the fact that we were having fun and investments were going well, I would have gone back.
We all have different reasons for retirement and may want to go back to work for the company we left. Most retired Boeing employees have a good relation-ship with Boeing and would return if there is a need. If my health would per-mit it, I would go back.
I would mod you up if I had any mod points. The current systems available on cruise ships have decent speed but terrible latency. A lower orbit could help but you are still stuck with a long distance between the satellite and land/ocean. Lower cost would help travelers on land and sea even if there is no good cure for latency. We have friends who use satellite ISP at home as well on the road and additional choices would be welcome.
If you want to see what shows that are on your watch list you can only see 2 shows instead of 12. A quick google will take you to 100s of negative comments but maybe 1 or 2 positive ones.
I was disappointed that caffeine was missing of the list of recreational drugs. Although Global Drug Survey has it listed, the ER statistics for caffeine is not in any of the articles. When we have a party, or go to one we have a can of pop or more. Is caffeine as safe as magic mushroom? Should we take it instead of pop? I am worried about my pop drinking as I have started to go to the hard stuff. I used to be able to get wired from DR Pepper(25mg) but now I sometimes have to drink Mountain Dew(55mg). I don’t want to wind up in the ER after drinking Red Bull if magic mushrooms are the safest reactional drug.
I am 74 and replying to you using my 4k monitor. The old people I have shown 4k movies using our large screen TV have been impressed. I also have a 4k laptop and the difference is impressive. There is a big difference even between 1080p BD and DVD on a good screen. My daughter’s home theater makes 1080p the minimum resolution, even for old eyes.
There is no reason for 3D as my 9-year old grandson, me and anyone between can testify.
You are better off with Pretty Good Solitaire for US $24.95 with free upgrades through the end of 2019. I purchased it late 20th century because it had a wizard to create your own solitaire games. I renew it every few years for no good reason as the new features are not that useful. The latest version did add 4k monitor support so I would have renewed this year just for that.
The quality of the cards, variety of card backs and game play make it a winner. You can try it for free (lame number of games allowed). See http://www.goodsol.com/.
There are plenty of other 3rd party games that you can buy instead of rent. Skip this for a better deal elsewhere.
I am also interested, as will be the rest of the world, how they will know the difference between the driver, the passenger. I am not talking about the owner of the device, I talk about the user of the device.
You point out the biggest problem. We never use our phones while driving but the when one of us is the passenger the phone is invaluable. The one exception is using a nav app. In the voice mode, it is not much of a distraction. Allowing voice mode in vehicle mode is easy, identifying that you are the driver looks almost impossible.
I would mod you up if I had any points.
Good idea. If we are to implement RCS in Politics, then we should also check out(no pun intended) the RCS community library http://www.rcscommunitylibrary....
If you have an area under your exclusive control (yard or balcony), you can install a dish https://www.fcc.gov/media/over.... If your condo is in a single building, then you might go to the HOA board to have access (not likely). In our case, our condo consists of small lots and the only restriction is to have the dish hidden from common areas, if possible).
If you want to try, DirecTV has a program to allow multiple owners to share a disk. If you are brave enough to go to the board with a proposal you might start with https://support.directv.com/ap....
I live in Washington State and already pay sales tax on all items purchased from Amazon, Boeing, Costco and Nordstrom. This must be the worst state ever for internet shopping.
I didn’t say when I studied this; this was in the late 40s. Your link is several decades since then; the soviets still had a good but ignored constitution for years. The Canadians got their own constitution that outlined several rights of Canadian citizens in 1982. I should have stated when I last studied constitutional freedom way before the Constitution Act of 1982.
I talked to a naval tort lawyer about the Soviet Union constitution as he was still a student constitutional law and the newer constitution was only slightly poorer. It was a diversion for him, as he appeared disinterested tort law.
The problem we face is, we do not support the Bill of Rights, as we should.
I remember as a kid reading the Soviet Union’s constitution giving Soviet citizens more rights than the US. They had a very good constitution and Canada had none. I thought that in Canada, there was no protection similar to our first amendment but Canadians could say, type and publish their thoughts freely. The Soviet union required typewriters to be registered with a typing sample so unauthorized speech wouldn’t contaminate the citizens. Russia is going down the same hole as the Soviet Union and we are following close behind.
I was just trying to be funny and make a comment on the popular press always predicting fusion was just 30 years in the future. The chart is quite useful and would like to mod your comment as informative but I cannot comment and moderate at the same time. Thanks for your input.
I was told in the sixties that fusion power would be available in unlimited quaintly in thirty years and we would no longer have meters measuring our electricity use. The obvious reason we still have to pay for power and investing in solar and wind power is the power companies are secretly using fusion power and charging us for fossil fuel.
I predict that 30 years they will still be charging us for fossil fuel:)
There have multiple organizations that had the capability of competing in the next market place and chose to ignore it because there was more profit in the last market place. The organizations lost market share and shrank as the old market place shrunk and the new market place expanded.
The following examples come to mind:
The Swiss started electronic watches but mechanical watches were more profitable
Kodak started designing digital cameras but film made more money.
Remington made computers but their consumer division was their main business.
Someone will make the next generation of processer chips. Intel will make less money in the short term if they decide to join the club but will eventually shrink if they don’t.
No. If and when a dual processor chip comes out, it will not be a stretch to have Linux versions tailored to the new chips. Novel (Suse) already has a version for AMD's 64 bit processor and they would have no trouble creating a dual processor version as Unix/Linux has been multi-processor friendly for decades.

Fusion reactor? Well, that's still 30 years away.

According to this challenge, I'm totally failing the Turing test. Is http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~jblocki/GOTCHA-Challenge_files/Account%200Inkblot4.jpg really a "robot on a skateboard like thing" to anyone here? What am I missing?
It appears that no human can identify the pictures. Perhaps we can get a team of AI programmers to create an app to tell us what the figures are;-)
Long-Term Survival Depends On Intel Embracing ARM
