With Palm using Linux, is there any word on people being able to develop 3rd part programs to read Secure eReader books? I'd love to be able to migrate my secure eReader books to eBookwise without downloading illegal copies.
Yes but either they only sue with the legally valid ones in which case everyone knows the others can be ignored, or they sue with all of them and the legally invalid ones get thrown out and Microsoft no longer has them to scare people with.
I think Microsoft prefers the FUD value then the destruction of a few open source companies that will inevitably be replaced with immune OS companies (as they won't have the code that infringes on the valid patents).
Reminds me of The Secret in that its a self-fulfilling prophecy. People involved in the Secret claim following it will lead to success. People believe them and give them money, making THEM successful. If people hadn't bought into it, they wouldn't have given them their money and they wouldn't have become successful.
Same with Gates. He says "this will happen" and people believe him so they give him money to make sure it happens.
I got the page to load and all I saw was a badly formatted page with ads before the actual content while content doesn't really seem worth anything. It had lots of dots on pictures representing articles. I couldn't really tell how much an editing war was happening, not anymore then simply seeing a list of recent edits for those pages. Were the pages selected on the fly (I'd take a closer look at the fucking article except its as slow as pushing out a large turd)? If not, how is it anymore "neat" or informative then simply looking at those pages?
Are people its customers or is Microsoft selling a user base to big business? Seems the latter to me. After all, we don't say viewers of tv are customers of the television company but are in fact the product sold to advertisers. Same with google.
Okay, that's contradictory. I'm guessing you mean that no Gmail accounts don't automatically come with Google account (i.e. they don't automatically activate). In which case, my bad, I was wrong.
Regardless you can't pin it all on M$ Are they being legally forced to add this DRM? Are the television stations able to stop the WMC from recording videos without Microsoft's aid? If no, then it sounds like they're getting into bed with big business. Sure they're screwing over the customers so they can avoid lawsuits (or so you say), however they're lawsuits Microsoft can win and afford. Sounds like they're willingly getting into bed with big business to me.
Microsoft once again demonstrates who its customers are. It isn't the people who buy their products, but big busines. Hence the heavy-DRM tie-ins they've developed for Vista among other products in the past (such as Windows Media Player)
I'd like to see the Luddites try putting a spin on this one.

Well commercial interests are hurt if our space-trash (beautiful way to talk about Scotty's remains by the way;)) brings down a satellite so we care about it. Whereas commercial interests are hurt if we do something about the environment, so we don't care about it. Really quite simply.
Right, and perhaps life on Gliese 581 is at the same technological level we were at 1886, as such they're pretty close (relativistically speaking) on discovering radar. We have no idea how many intelligent life forms there are out there. But the idea that there is none (at the moment) because of a lack of signals is preposterous. Perhaps they're going to make the big break through to begin utilizing those signals tomorrow. If we stopped looking today, we'd never know.
So if they discovered radio technology today, it would take 20 years for it to reach us.
This is the problem with people saying "SETI failed therefore there is no intelligent life outside our solar system." What if we were simply the first (still alive) species to invent radio technology? After all, someone has to be first.
As far as I'm concerned, if one of their designers coincidentally comes up with an idea very similar to one submitted for the contest, they deserve to be sued. Because clearly one person should own an idea for a particular amount of time, even if others come up with the idea independently. That sounds fair to me [/sarcasm]
If your teenager can't text her "bff jill" for a few minutes too bad. Yeah, same to elderly people having heart attacks. They can just wait until the president moves on like everyone else.

that he will stay rich, and beat his wife for Steve Jobs.
I forgot to add: It seems like a rather blatant and obvious plug to me in order to try to generate some revenue. Thanks CmdrTaco!

Imagine how much better the competition would be if western run sweat shops actually had good conditions.

Don't gmail accounts come automatic with Google accounts?

All of gmail's services require a gmail address as well.
Nice straw man there. Not once did I say you enjoy child porn, I simply expressed amazement and questioned your health at being able to defend it.
Wow, you're actually defending kiddie porn. How sick are you?

Two wrongs don't make a right.
Speak for yourself, I'm taking that day off work.....
Yes down here we have landline telephones as well as mobiles. I hear you Americans might be getting the former next year if you're lucky.
