  1. Environment Friendly Military?! on Environmentally Friendly Race Cars, Military Vehicles · · Score: 2, Insightful

Haha, is there anything more harmful to it's environment than a military vehicle? After all they are created to destroy and kill things.

  2. Patens == !startups on Is The Lone Coder Dead? · · Score: 1

Yeah the US lone coder is dead but might be resurrected if legislation is corrected. The European lone coder still awaits his verdict, but will hopefully be acquitted. Note that when a man and his dog can no longer sustain business it's probably equally hard for a startup. Patents creates an unhealthy environment for new companies and thus for economical growth!

What package/thing is now 5.0 and what package/thing is now 1.5?? Exactly what is this "meta data" about? The SUN site only points to some obscure specification document that tells me nothing about what meta data actually is good for.

  6. the world = USA ? on Slashdot Goes Political: Announcing politics.slashdot.org · · Score: 2, Interesting

Why is the section background the US flag? Maybe you meant uspolitcs.slashdot.org instead however last time I checked (okay I never checked, but is my guess wrong?) a huge amount of slashdot readers are from non-US countries? I'm well aware about the fact that some US citiziens think the "the world = USA" but I thought higher of slashdot editors than that. Certainly the US elections are very important but in general I would say the most interesting questions are those about society from a global perspective. Especially in the light of the communications revolution which started during the last decade.

  8. Re:I would be wary of this news on Sun COO Schwartz Promises Open Source Solaris · · Score: 4, Interesting

I dont think its strange at all, I could even imagine that Microsoft wanted this to happen. If Solaris servers are cheaper than IBM/RedHat ones then it will be harder for RH to grab a serious place in the enterprise server market. This also prevents "desktop RH" by (A) preventing RH from getting serious funds, (B) decreasing the RH-is-a-good-thing buzz among company management.

Well say that "X Window System" where first, then Microsoft added a single letter and it became "Windows" with an plural s. After that Lindows release yet another GUI system and changed again 1 letter... (W became L) and then Microsoft is all pissed off about it?! These word games are just aweful, it would be so much better if they could just write code instead! :)
