  1. Re:And racism? on Butterfly Unlocks Evolution Secret · · Score: 1

The article clearly states that the different markings usually arise when the two species are not geographically separated. The markings are used to allow mating with the correct species when the other species also lives in close proximity.

I think it's fairly obvious that human races arose in geographically separate areas. So, the natural mechanism is completely different and would indicate that human races did not come about to discourage interaction.

Yes, and Ada-ware is nasty spyware that you get from going to www.adaware.com. I can't tell you how many people just hear the name Ad-Aware and proceed to download the similarly named malware. It drives me insane.

I love that commercial. They ask how to make the internet (meaning AOL) better, and everyone in the world has an idea. I wonder which marketing guy thought that showing how everyone has problems with AOL would make people use the service...

It could be set up where you leave the password in your will and then a lawyer enters the password in the site and sends the emails. The "Web site" then never does have access to the emails. Just a suggestion...

Actually, the Soviet Russia jokes really come from Yakov Smirnov. Even though we really do need to "just use a pencil," the entire manned spaceflight program needs to be entirely overhauled. I think the best thing for it would be to move it into the private sector, with government funding to get companies off the ground (no pun intended). Once they seem viable, they're on their own.

  6. It IS good for us. on Outsourcing is Good for You · · Score: 3, Insightful

Outsourcing also raises the amount of money third world countries have. As they get richer, they start buying more expensive luxuries made in the industrialized nations. In the end, it will help our economy. Also, it is true that we do lose jobs to outsourcing. Like the article mentioned, however, we gain new skilled labor positions that are better paying than the manual labor positions that were eliminated.

  7. Re:Private IP Addresses on Internet-Enabled Thermostat · · Score: 1

Private IP addresses may be un-"hackable" from the outside with the right firewalls and NAT, but if someone writes a virus that gets inside the private network your air conditioner could be compromised. Private networks are by no means a perfectly safe means of protection.

"Act of God" is just the term they use to describe the unexplainable. It was used a long time ago and continues to be a legal term today. Get over yourself.

  9. Re:This might make sense... on Night Vision Goggles vs Pirates · · Score: 1

The really funny thing is that while they are going through all this trouble to protect from piracy in the UK, a high quality rip of the movie has already been released by pirates on BitTorrent networks.

If anything, it will only bring more publicity to the anti-piracy cause.
