I read slashdot all the time from my local pub using my Treo 600. Slash's palm browsing mode rocks. Although people are constantly asking me what I'm up to on that little thing! I then quickly hide the screen and switch away from the pr0n^H^H^H^Hnews when they try to look over my shoulder.

The only problem with relying on SMTP client authentication is that so many people choose "save my password" to prevent their having to remember and/or type it themselves. That makes it possible for the next zombies to send out spam under that user's email identity without having to spoof or relay.
If that happens, we'll soon have users themselves becoming blacklisted. Maybe that will produce an outcry... maybe it will just mean ISPs start blacklisting users until they update their systems... maybe it will mean lots of people just stop using email because of the hassles.
Lots of shit will have to hit the fan before we know for sure.
The qmail and djbdns ebuilds provided by gentoo automagically download DJB's sources as well as all of the popular patches (including qmailscanner), and then apply the patches and build it all very cleanly for you. No fuss, no muss, no license violations, no FUD.
Then again, I guess a lot of people are still a little afraid of gentoo (if not quite as much as DJB's scathing condescending wrath).
The house takes a rake, not an outcome advantage

The thing I love about poker is that it's not about playing against the house. It's about playing against other humans who have the exact same odds that you do. No weighted advantage among participants. Certainly the house always takes its cut (rake), but win or lose, it's always about one person outplaying (or being luckier than) another. Face to face, mano a mano. Very satisfying when you win, and very humbling when you lose. Love it.
