Before we give students laptops we should give them to teachers and get them up to speed by running the school on the network for a couple of years. The computer is supposed to be a management tool so let's have class managment software that keeps the daily statistics and sends them to school managment software on the school's server that then compiles the school's statistics and sends them to the district office. Have teachers compile a huge database of lesson plans and resource files that cover every subject and use the system to track which ones yeild the best results. Then have the lesson plans' authors develop the text "book" for that subject. At this point, 3 or 4 years in you are ready to effectively give kids a computer of their own and end the use of textbooks. This would go a long way toward paying for the computers. To deter theft put a little utility in the rom that reports the ip address to the cybercops every time it logs on.
if i link to your site and someone who clicks on the link is refused access by igear, then symantic is calling you a pornographer and me a panderer. this is all well and good if true, but if it is false it is slander if spoken and libel if written. this is not acceptable. symantic probably doesn't want you to be able to read a list of people it is actively libeling thousands of times a day for profit because of the propensity of libelees to recover damages after protracted litigation.
One problem for a 200 dpi monitor will be all the legacy jpegs on the web that will display at about 1/8 the size intended. By increasing to 216 dpi every old pixel can be displayed as a 3 X 3 pixel block at the same screen size as the original while vector graphics and text would still benefit from the extra pixels. The display engine could interpolate the pixels to improve image quality while conserving bandwidth. Peter Gillespie i like to know.
If you take the Findings as true, there is a good argument that microsoft used its monopoly power to extort concessions from intel and compaq and attempted to extort netscape out of the windows market. If they used a telephone in furtherance of this illegal conspiracy to extort they fall under RICO which would allow the siezure of those items used in or gained from the crimes, including microsoft's precious code, which the gov't could own and license to all who will pay a modest royalty.
