  2. Death is never dignified on Study Finds the Pious Fight Death Hardest · · Score: 2, Interesting

Simply speaking as a Lutheran Christian, I regard death as the enemy. However I believe that Christ conquered death so it is not to be feared. Death should never to be treated with dignity, but given the scorn it deserves. It doesn't need to be fought, but life is our gift and to be preserved as far as it is reasonable.

  3. Spaghetti Maps on Statistical Accuracy of Internet Weather Forecasts · · Score: 1

To get a grasp of where the forecast is coming from, you first need to read the NWS forecast discussion for your local area. It tells you what the weatherman is really thinking

Second for the long range, look at the NWS Spaghetti Maps, which can give you a true appreciation of how consisitent the models are, the difficulty in making a prediction, and an advance warning of what may be coming your way

Thanks for noting this--I googled Neutron generator tube to see what you're saying. This story is about a smart kid, but not much else to make news.

  5. Right on, Katz on The Corporate Republic · · Score: 1

Yes, this has been all said before, but no one listened then either. If you want to go back even further--this is essentially the Mark of the Beast, you know 666. I'm not a fundamentalist freak; I know we've always had the beast with us and always will. That's what inspires a Katz to write what he says, and that's what inspires those who disagree. Yes, same old, same old, but still true! Come on guys get your heads out of your...computers and get a life. We all know Bill Gates needs to get one. If I had his money I'd spend the rest of my life watching fishing shows and reading fishing magazines.

I think you've missed the point. I'm not Catholic, but I do believe that religion should be a way of life. Otherwise what good is it. What's profound about Canticle is that this way of life is what survives the nuclear war just as this way of life is what survived the Dark Ages before. Maybe he is out of touch with modern religious practice, but I don't believe modern religious practice will survive the future either.

I do quite agree with you that Christianity as part of the mainstream is no longer Christianity, that is in addition another refreshing aspect of the Christianity as depicted in the Canticle. You need to separate what Christianity teaches from what the way the world misuses it. This has often been described as the Theology of the Cross versus the Theology of Glory.

There are some very subtle points here that have eventual profound implications when it comes to survival.

  8. Re:If we all used Linux... on Fred Moody on the Solow Paradox, MS · · Score: 1

Yes! somehow the mac got lost in all the discussion. Stats indicate that it takes one
person to support 30 to 50 Windows computers.
That same person, as long as he's not MCSE certified, can support 150 macs. If you think
Linux is difficult to configure, try re-installing Windows. Unless you're too orgainized, in which case you need to get a life, you'll never pull all the proper drivers together.
That's where my personal productivity has gone-- from 75% Macs to 80% Windows: no more hacking--just maintaining Windows.
