I just signed up at a site called ethicalemail.com, and they seem to have an idea on how to help eliminate lots of spam.
The site is www.ethicalemail.com, I heard about them from an indiana business "paper" online (http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/newsitem.asp ?id=11088)
I figured it didn't cost me anything so I'm giving it a try - I'm way sick of spam...
