The biggest problem is it's unusual. The general public will not pore over tech specs and efficiencies they'll just think "Gee, I'm not gonna get in one of those dorky pods". The publicity will have to be incredibly effective (Apple level) to get any uptake.
Kids have always had little secret things, this just seems to be updated in terms of technology. I don't see how this is much different from having a locked/secret diary. He didn't say this computer was connected to the internet.
And passphrases seem like they'd be quite difficult for someone so young to type correctly. Remembering the fact that she isn't gonna be able to see anything she has typed.
