Apple switched processor architectures twice already, I can't see why they couldn't do it a third time.
As soon as they have something like Rosetta for x86 running at a reasonable speed it's withing the realm of possibility... With their marketing power I'm sure can succeed as well.
That's why you're starting to see catchphrases like "desktop class processor" in their materials, it keeps Intel in check...
