If you are going to use a car analogy, you need to point out that the only intended purpose of a car is to run over things.

I am pretty sure that you you can't actually kill a piece of paper. Even if you could, guns don't 'kill' everything they are pointed at. You are intentionally lying to make a point that you can't defend with honesty. Your argument is no better than saying that the only purpose of cars is to run over things. Sure, the primary thing they run over is a road, but you obviously want to run over school kids because you have a car, and their only purpose is to run over things.

No, I think geekoid can't imagine a gun manufacturer intentionally manufacturing and selling guns to people who use them for sport/leisure. It isn't any less ridiculous, but is a more accurate picture of geekoid's position.

The only ones who say that are people who just make stuff up. When someone dies from a gun virtually every single time it gets reported and recorded. When someone is saved by a gun it almost never gets reported. Frequently the person it saved doesn't even know the event happened.

Not to mention, I don't have to own a gun because drinkypoo does. The fact that I could own a gun, and someone deciding to break into my home has no idea if I do or do not own a gun, means that I gain a huge amount of protection whether I personal have a gun or not.

Thanks drinkypoo for making my home a little safer.

No, they don't. The developers sometimes make more money because cities like HOAs. Thus they let them build housing developments that would never meet the requirements for non-HOA builds. Cities like HOAs because they frequently allow the city to collect the same amount of taxes while skipping out on their responsibilities like parks, and road maintenance.

Voluntary is a loaded word in that sentence. Around these parts, virtually all new housing is being built with an HOA installed by default. Sure, there is older housing that doesn't have an HOA, but the supply of HOA free housing is supply side limited. While some people can get them, everyone can't. It's like trying to buy tickets to a sold out show. Sure, the tickets exists. Sure, if one is willing and able to pay a high enough price, you could get your hands on one. But in practice, there will be lots of people that want to go but cannot.

HOAs are great for a small subset of the population. For most people they are a pain that they just accept.

The police did NOT do exactly as they were supposed to do. The teaser is a replacement for shooting someone. It should never be used unless the alternative is to shoot them with a bullet. There is nothing in this story that indicates the threat to life and limb had risen to that level. The police used massivley excessive force in this case.

Combining sick day and vacation days is a good thing. It means that if you don't get sick, you get more vacation and that people don't wait until the morning of work to tell their employer that they are not coming in because they have to claim they are sick when they are really going out of town. No one benefits from separate days. Dishonest people think they benefit because they feel like they are pulling one over on 'the man' by using sick days for vacation.

No. when they were separate, employees would just call in sick when they wanted a vacation day. So, what you got was honest employees would get 7 days of vacation and dishonest employees would get 14. Either way, crappy employers will hold being sick against you, and good ones will hold showing up sick against you.
