Sounds to me like a better notepad might help as regular notepad is slow to load and use with large files. Also, learning SQL seems out of the question as it can a bit advanced for a hobby project. Perhaps the features of Notepad++ (free) or TextPad (free to try) can help as they open large files quickly and still work fast (Google for them). Note, the amount of system memory limits the file size that the notepads can work with. Perhaps learn to use the Vi text editor or Vim which can open and work with very large files and are not limited to system memory. Albiet, the user interface of Vi or Vim can feel frustrating to a new user.
Just two weeks prior/. posted an article covering SourceForge's transition from MySQL to IBM's DB2. Would this have happened if MySQL was a contender or was in the process of becoming one in the near future?
He is only part socialist. Electing Nader does NOT mean the US will turn to socialism. Some of his views are but that is not everything. Just the fact that the government is breaking up Microsoft is VERY socialist. In fact the US currently has many socialist policies. Coincidentally they are some of our best.
Not voting IS voting. Unfortunately it is voting Republican. The fact of the matter is most people are too lazy or wrapped up in themselves to care about an election or anything else. When the only people who vote are those that care about money a Republican wins office. The only time people really turn out to vote is when things are going bad. Keep it real people! I am glad that you read all of the news from the mainstream media. Unfortunately you must have skipped reading the last section of my post. ZDNET and MSNBC are both owned by LARGE CORPORATIONS. That means big business was involved in writing those articles and swaying your beliefs. If you believe everything that you read you might as well vote for Bush. If you have any other articles on a shortage of doctors in Canada or a the United Nations sending doctors to Canada I would love to read them. Maybe a bunch of really greedy doctors left Canada for the United $tates and the media blew it out of proportion. Remember that CNET article last week about the Mozilla Browser becoming an office app? Did you know CNET owns ZDNET?
As far as raising taxes, have you ever heard of a thing called the "National Dept?" Well, it is not going to pay itself.
Actually, most of Nader's Policies aim to hurt the short term in favor of long term benefits.
In addition: did you know that one of Bush's major policies is to increase the size of the US military!

The mainstream media would never present this story to the American public. A much larger and more powerful CORPORATION owns every media business. Corporations love Republicans because they cater to tax cuts and the rich. Decisions made for the general public are not those produced by the greedy but by those who have the moral strength to think of another's well being before that of their own.

I am all for it. Throughout Europe they have adopted the larger screen size and it is about time the US caught up with the trend. The only reason US monitor makers are not conforming is because of the minor profit they would lose in the conversion. No one wants to be first because they would lose the most money. Unfortunately most people do not know what they are missing. Having telnet, web browser, and IRC windows open all at once with full visibility truly kick ass.
In some situations I have found that just using GPL code or doing some GPL work during work time is OK as nobody is the wiser. However, if this is a somewhat medium to large project introduce the idea to management or whoever is in charge and make them aware of the situation. More specifically inform them that any work on [that] part of the project must be freed to the public. Try to convince them that it is somehow less expensive using the GPL "free code trade." At best, you will have covered your own butt and legally protected the company.
A trade secret is a secret. If it needs to be kept anything more than that it needs to become pattented or registered into the public domain. This is absolutely rediculous.
X is standard and it is just that, standard. It is incredibly difficult to set a simple standard let alone and industry wide standard that is supported by all of the *nix's. Although it can be a pain at times to code, it is so well established the any tampering could result in a mess of arguments and lack of connectivity amoung the not MS OS's. We must look to the future and keep and realize that its not the GUI that needs to be looked at but the entire OS itself.
