  1. Re:Dear Apple on iTunes Store Available in Australia Very Soon · · Score: 1

Blind testing is also helpful. I have done a setup with 4 feeds going into a digital mixing console: raw audio, 128kb/s MP3, 128kb/s AAC and Auto ALC, the feeds were phase synced and I got my friend to move the faders, to switch feeds, the AAC and MP3 were easy to pick, but the difference between the ALC and the raw was harder, but still there.

Please tell me you are not serious...

iTunes is too restrictive. I tried it when it came out, but because I don't have an Apple mp3 player, I cannot play any of my songs.

iTMS is an iPod marketing tool, along with a being quite cool for just nabbing those songs you just have to get.

I should be able to rent music. What would the record companies say about that? Give me a break! *Rent* music? How? "Oh, I've copied it, you can have it back now!"

Its a bit like Linux really, they forgot to add windows compatibility - which fails me - really, if you don't make an OS compatible with Windows, whats the point! Same with MP3 players.

I hope to god you are trolling. If not, you need some sense beaten into you.

You forgot ALC, quite an interesting codec, but the sample rates can get a little insane.

If this is the case, I'd question the quality of both your ears and your speakers. Most consumers can put up with poor quality (128kbit/s) MP3s, and wouldn't know the difference with an AAC. I know there are less artifacts and the sound is fuller with an AAC, but it is by no means the same as uncompressed audio. A comparison between an MP3 encoded at high rate and a low rate AAC is moot, the AAC uses a better, less obtrusive compression algorithm, but it's still audiable.

What kind of spam bulk do you get? I doubt you would see a false positive if you are getting 100+ spam emails a day. I own several domains and have a catchall email account for one of those. This is a calculated risk because it is not a TLD, (.id.au) and isn't well known. I just use the built in spam filter in Mail.app (Mac OS X) and I rarely get any spam in my inbox. I do, however have to check my spam box, because the filter is still learning.

Fair enough too. Think about it, as good as publicity is for a project, running into huge bandwidth bills is not. Basically, this weeds out people just going to the site for a sticky beak. I'm sure if you all donated to the project, they would open the floodgates because they could afford the bill.

But aren't those wings a lot bigger than a suit? It's a lot harder to roll a larger set of wings isn't it. Also, seeing that his head will most probably be in the centre of any roll, it'd be pretty hard to think straight while attempting to regain control.

Good point, but what where does falling stop and flight begin? Is it the ability to stay aloft for an extended length of time? The ability to rise past the initial point? The ability to not be dead on landing?

I'm no expert in aerodynamics or atmospheric dynamics, but don't you take a huge risk with that (apart from the obvious things) with the help of a nasty gust, updraft or the like, an un recoverable spin could occur.... The problem with having a set of wings and no engine is once you our out of control, recovery won't be easy.

This sounds like an interesting (if redundant :P) project to muck around with. I just have a few points.
    • What about the noise from the fan? My old laptop is as loud as hell, even when I'm not running anything
    • It glows! I don't really want to have to turn off my picture frame, a passive LCD, or a jury rigged backlight dimmer/switch might improve the idea.
    • Resolution. I like to view my pictures as prints, mainly because of the extra detail you get. 72x72 resolution isn't exactly my idea of high quality. I like a nice big, black and white print on real, honest to god paper.
