Maybe you shouldn't be such a tight ass and spend some money on software. The people who like to get there software for "free" and only for "free" are the people who will kill the open source software movement. As much as it is about lower cost software somewhere along the line somebody has to pay for the development cost of the software so programmers don't starve to quickly (well at least for now here is a good example of why http://www.golden-orb.com/).

How may /.'s have made financial contributions to open source projects (sure alot of you would have purchased a Linux distro, I have) or better still how many companies have you worked for that have made some financial contributions to the developers of the open source software they use?

As for the MS Office issue I would love to see an application like that for Linux, unfortunately OpenOffice is still go a way to go yet! Anyway I don't think Microsoft can separate it from the OS enough to do it :).

Reading over the first 500 hundred comments it seems that emotions and patriotism has gotten in the way of simple logic. It's not about WMD's. If the USA, Britan, Australia and other coalition partners were concerned about WMD's the soldiers would be eating Kim Chi on the Korean peninsula or better still they might be in Packistan, India OR ANY other country with a Nuclear weapons program. The 2nd War in Iraq was NOT about WMD's it has nothing to with freedom for the Iraqi people - if that was such an issue the USA and its "know-how" would have taken care of that last time. The governments of the three mentioned nations have at one time or another dealt directly with despotic rulers at some time or another.

Its all about oil and controlling the supply. Control the worlds oil supply and you control developing nations such as China - the demand for oil in China is increasing rapidly. The USA went into Iraq for nothing more period. It is good? It is bad? Persinally I don't know - probably not for good the people of Iraq. Good for Ameraican's ? Well some of them are getting rich out this affair and will do for sometime to come yet.

So stop being blinded by the "spin" from the left and the right and lets do what nerds do best solve problems i.e. lets get rid of our dependency on fossil fuels!!!

Now you can correct me if I'm wrong but children do not go in search of child pornography on the internet. The people that do prey on children pose as children in chat rooms to acheive their goals.

How will the blocking of content stop this from occuring?

Shouldn't money be spent no on educating parents and NOT filtering content at the ISP level. It actually doesn't cost much to pose the question to parents .... "Would you leave your child alone with 100+ strangers who you've never met before?"

Please email these people and let them know this.

Your looking to deeply.... The movie was named October sky after one of the "definitive" moments in Homer Hickam's life when he saw Sputnik fly across the night sky in October in 1957.

or should I say ... "across the October sky in 1957".

I'm pretty sure it's chapter 2 of the book.
