Unless I am mistaken it was David Maynor that made the comment about the lit cigarette, not Jon Ellch. It was also David Maynor who made clear at Defcon that the reported took that comment out of context and he was refering to the characters in the commericals.
It seems Apple agreed with Maynor since they just fired the Mac guy in those commericals.
