  1. Re:separate partitions for / and /home on How Big Should My Swap Partition Be? · · Score: 1

I totally agree. In addition, there's also the issue of filling up partitions. Some times its desirable to have a partition (/var) dedicated just to things like logging, so if something goes crazy and uses up too much disk space, your programs are still able to log, and possible leave you clues as to what is going wrong, but I think this is a far less likely situation to occur.

  2. How is this different than... on Jailtime For Leeching Wireless? · · Score: 1

How is leeching someone's unsecured wireless connection any different than watching a TV sitting on your neighbor's lawn facing your house? If this TV was in someone's house with the blinds closed I think it would be wrong to try and watch it. I think this is very similar to an insecure access point. Why should there be a difference in policy depending if the rays entering your property are light or radio?

Precisely. The PXE image is just a small image that will looks at the ethernet address of the client node, and uses that to download the correct partition table information, partitions the 4 disks, creates raid devices, and downloads/installs images of the partitions. I wasn't the one who set it up, but have had to make tweaks here or there and the whole process works really well. I'd say we PXE a few hundred computers a day. The process takes about 15 minutes to do 32 computers at once on 320gb disks (although the system partitions only make up ~1-2gb of that).

Your best bet is to tweak a build of the OS (shut down unneeded services, automatic updates, etc) then GHOST (or equivalent) the disk so that EVERY customer gets the same thing.
We use a PXE boot proccess to do this at the company that I work for. Since your using linux its probably a good free alternative to GHOST so long as your hardware supports it.

But of course it probably wouldn't take more than one or two negative reviews to possibly sway you from purchasing a product. 'The squeaky wheel gets the oil' is definitely applicable here where one negatve review will have a larger impact than 3 other users who love a product but never post about it online in the forums you found the negative reviews in, because they are using that product to do what they bought it for.

You already can get gapless play back in the iPod with RockBox's firmware, which would imply its not the fault of the PortalPlayer chip.

There's more to it than that really. By being your ISP they would have access to every site or connection you make on the internet, and therefore would have a more effective data mining solution than doubleclick.net or the like, with out being nearly as intrusive on the user's computer (or be blockable via plugins like ad-block, or denying cookies).

I'm not sure what the privacy policy of this service would be, but I see this as being about the same level of intrusiveness as adds targeted to you based on the emails you receive on gmail.
