As much as I would like the hardware specifications to match the FANTASTIC OS that the Mac Team has but together, it won't happen. With out the Mac Team's strict control over the hardware, drivers and sofware issuses would rend the OS as crash prone as winBlows.
To make this possible, it would take a huge commitment from software/hardware manufacturers to make drivers for the new os/x86 combo. Any older components would most likely have to have homebrew drivers.
I believe the people behind my favorite OS wouldn't allow these complications for three reasons.
1. It would lessen their small market share
2. It is completely askew from the vision that is Mac
3. It would weaken the OS
If my children start to follow in my adolescent footsteps and enjoy gaming, I am going to push them to have other children come over. One problem with addiction in games is losing tough with reality and missing out on human interaction. I plan to use a "the family that games together, stays together" approach if that is their interest.
TV generally is a disappointment to me, only few programs are interesting/educational enough to watch and usually are available only at certain times of day. So I will always be playing games in one form or another. Instead of pushing my family out, I've tried to include them and use the hobby to make more friends. This has led to more non gaming social situations were we go out and bowl.
There are many dangerous things in this world. TV, Games, Alcohol, and even Star Trek will affect people differently. To some moderation is the key, to others it may not be the way to go.
The article was about gaming addiction. However onesided it may be, perhaps it could do some good in getting parents to monitor their children. Each child/parent combo should decide what is necessary for them; every situation is different.

All I know is that if these things are found with large stone paddles, I am putting down a Laser based Supercomputer on my Christmas List.
