handles 1,000,000's of files
Fast searching
Quick to recover
FAST backup interface at the FS level in a nice all over standard way that backup software vendors can easily hook into (Hmm NDMP comes to mind). (Imagine backing up filesystems that take HOURS to do nothing more than a simple find.)
How about spliting up the data from the file metadata and the locking so the whole lot can be improved separately or even (see lustre) spread over many machines for added resilience / performance.
The list of nice fs features goes on and on....
