  1. Violent people do not necisarily commit violence on Software to Predict "Troubled Youths" · · Score: 1

Just because a person has violent tendencies does not meen that this person is not capable of keeping full reign on themselves. Also, people without violent tendencies are perfectly capable of flipping out and commiting violent acts. I for one love shooting ppl in quake, and thought the matrix shootemup scene was the funniest thing i ever saw in my life. I've tortured little animals and plotted devious ways to destroy elementry schools. However, i've never touched a person in my life. Yes, the tests will catch people who are "prone to violence" but from expirience with phycoanalysis, they do not take into account a persons will power which keeps a person from acting the way they think.

This explains the popularity with strong caffine among geeks I guess :)
what about alchahol? The best code is always written when drunk or sleep deprived buzzing on caffine, so I guess we'll find a similar study on alchahol some time in the future. Or perhaps its already been done and just been repressed by the government. 10:1 they never teach anyone this nifty fact about caffine in schools.

  4. lost in the translation on A Universal Networking Language for the Internet? · · Score: 1

The concept is nice, but you're still stuck with the problem that most languages are based on anacdotal references as well as accual words. You can translate the words, but the concepts will still frequently be lost.

  5. I have one of those, not that new on Microwave T1 Service · · Score: 1

The isp I used to work for is using this stuff in Staunton VA, it works quite nicly. It can accualy be faster than a real T1, as humidity speeds it up quite a bit. In the rain it realy screems. I have one in my appartment as well. The equipment can be bought for as low as $250 for the entire package of stuff ya need. Oh, if any ISPS out there want to impliment this and want to hire someone who's expirienced with it, email me! (shameless self plug). Oh and if you live in Staunton VA, www.vaix.net is that isp, I dunno what their rates are these days though.

  6. Equiping the Saints on Old Boxen and Charitiable Organizations · · Score: 1

There's a charitable orginization known as Equiping the Saints which collects used/broken/ancient compuers, fixes them up, and then ships them out to missionaries and churches. They ship stuff in and out by the semi load. They gladly take any donations or, if your in the area, help fixing puters. Anything you donate is tax detuctable, and they'll mail you a receipt at the end of the year. A great use for that old 486 you never use any more. Here is some contact information. If you're ever in the area, swing by and check the place out, its amazing.
