PD or Professional Disc or XDCAM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ is basicly rewritable BluRay.
And is in use at lots of television stations for high quality SD signal.
working as an editor on a TV station- I would kill for a programme that could find words from raw material. That would save a lot of time.
PS. caption is not exact because it is usaly limited to 32 characters for a line. And it takes more time to read - compeared to same thing said in audio.

Until someone will figure out how to pay to some honest artists and/or producers for their work. Then there is only few possibilities:
a. DRM
b. sponsorship
c. not publishing
Options b and c will kill all kind of professionalism.
