Isn't this what virtual machines were created for. Lock down the main PC and let them play in the sandbox? But I am not a developer so I don't know if this would suck or not.
At my office everyone has admin rights and it makes life hell.
Or like the Geek Squad. The jobs you wear a uniform for in the cubicle world is janitorial or security. It belittles the workers. It separates them form the "real" workers at the company.
PS. I thought the Hawaiian shirt was the IT uniform, at least where I work it appears to be.
IT unemployment is actually really low compared to real unemployment so that's not the case. I think that those of us in IT tend to be push overs on the job and are used to being treated as second class citizens.
I work for the State of CA and they gave me a schedule of 8-5 and no OT then handed me a blackberry and they got mad when I did not answer after hours. I get paid from 8-5 and my phone is off the rest of the time. Especially since I am facing a 15% pay cut thanks to the furloughs. I already do many long days and flex that time in. If I was private sector I would be making more $ and would do more after hours or actually keep the phone on. Other agencies have shifts outside of "work hours" with big pay differentials and people on call but my agency chose not to do that and we were told by executives that there is no OT so am I supposed to donate more time for free?
I have a Dodge Magnum with a HEMI and if I drive 65-70 on 101 from Salinas to San Jose and then 680 to 80 and then Sacramento I get 25 MPG but when I take I5 the MDS won't work since more throttle is needed for all the hills. The MDS comes on when 15% or lower of the throttle is used. On I5 I get 19-20 MPG going 75-80 as the speed limit is 70.
I make an effort to drive more efficiently on the freeway and if I am sane on the city streets it does 17 mpg. The smaller 3.5 liter has 100 less horse power and almost 175 ft lbs of torque less but only 1-2 mpg better. But I did not buy a HEMI to get great mileage. I got it because I really like driving this car.
Its called an iPaq. I can do everything that I need to do, yes even watch a DVD. It takes a little program to rip the DVD but it can be done. Its real portability.

Just like Apple. Oh yeah, you can't "legally" install OSX on anything but their machines.
