You're wrong in two points: a) Turning into a black hole is determined by mass/radius ratio. You could even turn out sun into a black hole by "somehow" (:-) ) pushing its radius below the Schwarzschild radius. b) "it heats up and begins nuclear fission." -> You mean "fusion", as fusion needs heated-up gas (plasma) to start. Fission is what happens in nuclear power plants;-)
The kernel is called Linux, but the operating system is called Gentoo/AMD64. There is a major difference between both: Try to run some application using only the Linux kernel...
