I recently moved from to NC, but still work for a company in MA where I've been a full-time employee for a few years now. Both states have a tax and this is what I found out a few weeks ago. I work at home everyday save maybe 12 days a year.
Taxes are withheld for the State of MA from my check every pay period (5.95%)
No taxes are withheld for NC (7-8%)
I will get a small refund from MA and the remaining amount that MA keeps can be deducted from the amount I will have to pay to NC for never having given them any money all year.
It sucks, but it's the law
Has everyone lost their minds??? Every large compay in the world has it's hands in so many different pots it's amazing. UPS builds battle ships for god sake. Phillip Morris makes bread... The list is endless.
If any corporation truely wants to succeed the need to diversify heavily.
If microsoft or Linus Torvalds, for that matter, wants to build a better diaper I say go for it!!! Especially if it helps employ some people.
On a side note there was once a flsh website that had an active matrix of people and the many MANY boards they sat on. It was very scarey seeing where some board members crossed conflicting companies. If anyone knows what it was let us all know.
Linux world domination is hardly a new concept. Just take a look at your past issues of LJ they have a WD issue every month for 4 months straight a back in 2000....Or maybe it was 2001...
You are right quantity != quality. However (quality * time = quantity2)
Your "Insightful" veiw of computer usage in the world is a little . There will always be one of everything, in the end... Coke, Rebock, Mercedes and Verizon will all eventually lose... it's the way we humans like things. Build something up make it the winner and then tear it down.
My question is what will replace Linux 20 years after it crushes M$?
