I just recently had my cell phone die on me, so I switched to T-Mobile and got a Motorola V360. This phone has bluetooth as well as the ability to act as a USB modem with a data connection (dial *999 or something, check online for the recipe to get connectivity). It supports EDGE as well as GPRS, and works with the cdc-acm linux driver. While it is not fully supported by moto4lin, I can use kdemobiletools to download my address book, make calls and send SMS messages. The phone needs to be switched to modem mode to be used this way, as the default is to provide USB mass storage access to the microSD card in the phone.
So all in all, works better than I would've expected. As with anything, YMMV.
Two of my favorite lesser known (or at least so far unmentioned) sets of books are Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars series, which is a wonderful combination of personality and technology in a story of the colonization of Mars. Good science/tech, with brilliant political/social impact of the above.
The other book I loved was The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. The contact with alien civilization has been done many times, but not often with the Jesuits as lead characters.
The Board may create one or more Advisory Committees in addition to those set forth in this Article. Advisory Committee membership may consist of Directors only, Directors and non-directors, or non-directors only, and may also include non-voting or alternate members. Advisory Committees shall have no legal authority to act for ICANN, but shall report their findings and recommendations to the Board.
I guess that means they are still willing to hold court, but not have us in the corporoyalty.

The dolphins have discovered crystals in the ruins of Atlantis that focus their sound waves into electromagnetic broadcasts. These interface with satellites orbiting the Earth. The satellites interprete these signals into packets than are then used to flood CNN.com, Yahoo, and others. This is their revenge for all the wrongs that mankind has done them over the years. The only course of action is to detonate the entire arsenal of all the militaries of the world into the oceans to end this threat once and for all!
"Where do you get off thinking any OS is superior to DOS?"
What is the most significant danger of censorware (blocking software, filtering software, web proxies, etc)? What is, in your opinon the worst case scenario for the implimentation of these solutions? "Where do you get off thinking any OS is superior to DOS?"
This boycott can only truly be successful if it hurts Amazon's pocketbook. The problem is that Amazon doesn't make any money! Even if they lost some revenue from this boycott, they're still a large company with corporate/investment backing. A boycott won't be successful on it's own, unless it has some pressure from other sides as well. I suggest letter-writing and phone calls. I have no info on who to talk to, but if someone does, please post it.
"Where do you get off thinking any OS is superior to DOS?"
This particular article strikes me as fear-mongering. However, I could easily see this sort of "declaration" causing a cyber-arms race. The US government will throw money at developing their own Information War crack-troops. We have our new enemy to fear for the next decade or so.
Of course, this could just be random hype, and nothing will come of it. If any 3leet kids out there start getting calls from the men in the white hats, I hear they don't pay too well.:)
"Where do you get off thinking any OS is superior to DOS?"
The most impressive thing about the acting (or the entire movie, for that matter) was the fact that most of the dialogue was improvised. The producers took the kids into the woods and left them there for 8 days without telling them what they were going to do. Much of the fear in the movie is as real as they could get it.
My only question is this: When is Hollywood going to attempt something in the same style?:)

Mathematics is brainwashing. All those little numbers will make children believe that everything can be categorized into True/False, or ennumerated. Uncertaintity is the only way to be prepared for everything.

It amuses me that once someone reaches the age of 18 (or 21), they are automatically assumed to have all the faculties of an adult, and are expected to act maturely from that point on. This is an unreasonable request. Perhaps if there were some sort of test to see if someone eligible for the title "mature".:)

First off, I should preface this by saying that I fully believe in your right to not look at porn, and your responsibilty to fight something you see as evil. However, I must refute the statement that pornography is addictive. Research has shown that viewing pornography does not damage children. The damage that many anti-porn advocates speak of is the combination of the social conditioning placed upon some children. All pre-teens and teens are interested in sex. This is a state of being human. The mistake is to fight this with cultural taboos. The "children" you caught in the school library looking at pornography were simply acting on natural impulses. Combine this with the excitement of doing something "bad, and the sexual arousal from the pictures, and the appeal is obvious. Any damage from viewing these images is done not by the pornography itself, but from the social conditioning placed upon these children. Any parent has a right to place conditioning upon their child, but I question the benefit of a cultural mindset that has to rely on censorship of information in order to stay undamaged.
-Ke "Where do you get off thinking any OS is superior to DOS?"
I'd have to agree with on the fact that to some people, Free Speech and Free Information are not the most important thing. However, it is a cause that is worth fighting for. I personally am in no position to directly help starving peoples in Africa or ethnically cleansed peoples in Indonesia. I can only offer them a chance to speak of their plight on the net. This is where Free Speech and Free Information comes in. It may not be a life-saving movement in and of itself, but its uses for other movements are unlimited.
Anonymity can sometimes be the only way to get a message across. Sometimes signing your name to an idea can lead to persection, violence, and sometimes death. Anonymity is the only way to protect oneself against people who believe that certain things should not be said, and are willing to defend that belief by any means neccessary.
The same argument that is applied to Free Speech can be applied to Anonymous Speech as well. Many people believe that Free Speech is abused more than it is used for Good (TM). The problem with this argument is that Good is a matter of personal judgement. Anonymity is one of the only things that keep Free Speech completely Free.

The OSS movement won't survive an attack by the US government. Most OSS developers are not willing to sacrifice their lifestyles for "higher values". Coding for free is all very well and good, as it brings respect in the community, and sometimes other interesting projects. Fighting against world governments is a completely different ballgame. Many geeks may see this as a romantic lifestyle, full of adventure and excitement. The reality is that the US government can and will jail anyone it thinks is subversive. Most jails don't offer very much bandwidth, kids.:)
This is not to say that we can't/shouldn't fight back. However, since we are not a global nuclear power, I don't recommend fighting directly against any government. Subtlety is the best policy.
