The sendmail problem is caused by sendmail trying to resolve your hostname. (afair). It's happened to me quite often before, and it is bloody irritating:-) One solution is to install qmail, which doesn't seem to do the above.
I've had the good fortune to sort of convert my windows puppy father to the linux side when I installed Caldera 2.2 on his compaq armada. After about a week, he'd stopped booting to blows (except to play starcraft:-P).
I was quite impressed with the Caldera install, especially the way it ran from windows, and sorted KDE out properly. The one thing that did irritate me about it, though, was the unavailability of a customised install. (Only sizes of 500 mb (minimal???) 700mb, and 1 gig were available...and I don't like rpm -e that much =)
I'd be interested to see how much better 2.3 is. Jeremy
