The Journalist by Ultimate Direction is a great bag. It coverts from a backpack to a shoulder pack, has lots of gear pockets and even carries your water bottle.
I use a 20 GB Pocketec. It's small (2.5"), cheap ($150), USB2, bus powered and best of all has a on/off switch for when you don't want it showing on your work system. They also have 1.8" version.
