as the phynd administrator at uconn, i would love to see a gnucleusLAN network floating around. i am also rather disheartened at a lot of users just opening files on other people's computers and slowing that other person's machine to a crawl. it really has an adverse affect on the decision people make if they want to share something with their friends or not.
the reason i would like to see gnucleusLAN is not because of the "leeching" situation, which i will agree is common. with ANY p2p network, heavy leeching occurs. usually only 10% of users on any p2p network actually share something, while the other 90% just leech. that's just the way it is, whether it is through gnucleus or through windows smb.
i would very much like to see a gnucleus alternative just to cut down on people absolutely destroying the cpu usage on someone else's machine by playing a large movie file on a share, but it will in no way tackle the leeching problem that is prevalent on all p2p networks.
am i interested? sure. as long as i can connect to a gnucleuslan server with my mac osx and linux boxes, i'd be all for it.
