How many Osama bin Laden's have they caught lately?
Hey, but that would end the war on terror, and politicians would actually have to have a vision and solve some problems. We can`t have that now can we?;)
I don`t think a lot of musicians make that much money of recordings, some will even lose money by releasing a recording (studiotime, marketing etc.).
The big money (for most artists) is in performing live, so I think it would be in a musicians interest to release free music. The more people who know your work, the more that will visit your gigs, the more money you'll earn.
The only trouble with releasing free music is the promotion, free music isn`t promoted and will hardly get played on radio or reach a lot of people in other ways. If you're lucky some kind of hype might happen, but that's not very likely.
Maybe these artists could hook up with podcasters or online radiostations and get airplay that way.
By the way, making the music free doesn`t have to strip it of all the other rights involved. It could be released under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs creative commons license for example.
These mod chips you are speaking of, their primary use is cutting food as well?
Seriously, those chips have no other use then make the PayStation play the less legitimate kind of games,or do they have other kinds of uses? I can see why these chips are illegal in most countries, although I could imagine you'd like to be able to make a backup copy of a game you've bought, so when you scratch the disc you wouldn`t have to buy the game again.
But I want to watch while you tell slashdotters (and the rest of the U.S. voters) that they have to surender their thumbprint before they can vote.
Do you realy think that would work in the U.S. ?
Maybe for something as important as renting a dvd, not for voting:)
As an outsider, after following the USA elections both on the internet and on television I must say I was amazed at the methods and machines used in the election. I can`t believe a country like the USA is so disorganised when it comes to one of the fundamental principles of a democracy. Whether you're a democrat or a republican (or 3th party) I think this is something every voter should be worried about.
There was even an attempt by republicans to pass allow allowing a friendly country (holland) to be invaded and its soldiers killed to "rescue" any american brought before the international court. A greater insult to the world could not have been delivered as america was at the same time busy to get other countries war criminals before those same courts.

I guess you wouldn`t mind being drafted for the war in Iraq then? I didn`t agree with my government sending troops to Iraq, good to see you volunteering to take their place.
Basically it says the guy behind The Truth About Iraq is some sort of PR adviser for politicians. I'd rather have my "facts" from an independent source. Multiple sources if possible.

I had the same problem, I don`t remember exactly what I did to fix it. It was some setting in Quicktime, preferences -> MIME Settings -> "and then I forgot what I did:)"
We are also voting for President of the United States, Leader of the Free World, not American Candidate (the showtime reality series). It would help to actually have some significant elected experience to run on.
The "Leader of the Free World" is not chosen by people living in the US, but by people in "The Free World".
Currently there seems to be a vacancy for the position...
Most of the providers mentioned in the survey, aren't free, but paid hosting providers.
Also the survey was trying to prove a flaw in the current system. Currently an ISP risk paying a huge fine under the European Guideline for Electronic Trade if they don`t remove copyrighted materials (if they can reasonably know it's copyrighted). Providers don`t risk a fine for pulling the plug on a website, so in most cases they will do just that.
Seems like right now the burden of prove doesn`t rests with the copyrightholder, but with the person publishing the materials.

Yeah, but the RIAA would get sued by the mob, who used and perfected this method long before it became a ligitimate corporate tactic. :P
