  1. Re:Aren't people scared? on P2P Population Growing Again · · Score: 1

Saying that we're a democratic society is obviously pushing things considerably. It is quite obvious (as you hinted at) that America is an oligarchic society (that is, one who's ruling class is the wealthy) and no ammount of public opposition is going to change that.

  2. Out of proportion on Fix Your Crashing X-Box 360 With String · · Score: 2, Insightful

This whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Mine has had absolutley zero problems, mostly by just keeping both the console and the "power brick" as they are starting to call it on hard surfaces with reasonable ventalation. sure it gets a little warm but nothing to warrant hanging it by a string. I hate that a few people's stupidity and isolated problems get blown out of proportion like this. People should settle down a bit.

  3. Will it be Effective? on Spyware Fines OKed By House · · Score: 1

I question whether or not this law will be effective. It sounds nice in theory, but the ammount of work required to check all software for spyware seems like it would be enormous. This might be helpful in keeping major release programs such as instant message software and other such things from having spyware, but chances are a large ammount will still get through.
I also wonder what new methods of hiding their spyware software makers will come up with next. This is definitley a victory, but caution is neccessary.

  4. Good For Sony on Sony Japan to Abolish Copy Controlled CDs · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is a good move by Sony. Discs with the protection are incredibly annoying. Sure, people will pirate stuff and do things with non-protected discs illegally, but this is becoming less frequent, and for people who actually buy their music honestly, it is an incredible annoyance to not be able to do what you want with your own personal music. Thanks Sony.

  5. Increasing Power of Red Hat on Red Hat Acquires Netscape Server Products · · Score: 5, Insightful

Just two years ago AOL was looking to aquire Red Hat. http://slashdot.org/articles/02/01/19/041215.shtml It's amazing how things have changed. Where AOL once wanted Red Hat to be another Netscape for them, Red Hat is now purchasing parts of Netscape from AOL. Personally, I think its great.

  6. Re:If I were at Sony... on Warp Pipe Group May Bring Online Gaming to DS · · Score: 1

While Sony seems to have shown all their cards for the PSP, it looks like Nintendo has a whole lot up their sleeve.

This sort of reminds me of what happened a few years ago with PS2 and XBox. The PS2 came out first and got all the initial hype, but in the end people realized that the XBox was the more powerful, feature-rich system. I will not be suprised when the DS ends up being more popular than the PSP
