Kodak does not produce any competing products that can be harmed by whatever Larry Wall or Guido do. This is simply a case of extortion. They want money. Big money.
I did a comparison earlier this year and the real codec was quite clearly the better of them all. Best quality in smallest file sizes. The only reason I didn't implement it was because I didn't want to commit to a proprietary, closed format. Windows Media was quite bad in comparison.
The whole point of having a civilized society, one that's regulated with laws, is not to leave sections of the population under the mercy of darwinism.

OSS needs an image shakeup; I use firefox, gaim, openoffice.org on my windows xp machine not because they are low cost, but because they are BETTER!!!
