  1. Canada's just gearing up for slashdot. on Canada Builds World's Fastest Network · · Score: 1

Perhaps Canada is just gearing up so they can submit canadian stories to slashdot without saturating there network.

Or worse yet, canada puts up backslashdot.org and tries to backslashdot us.
This could be the reason why slashdot was down last night and this morning!

I think this is an act of war. :)

I don't understand why you couldn't do that, I mean, I have my theories and I don't see why they wouldn't work, but I'm no kernel hacker.
So I don't see why if the kernel controls everything, it could just stop scheduling processes while it updates itself.. A kernel-helper could move in and takeover to assist the rewriting of heart of the system.

Or perhaps, a totally modularized and reduntant kernel. While the memory manager is updating it could evilly use swap while it updates, or perhaps simply doesn't any processes that would want to use memory to be scheduled to take place..

Also hooks could be put in to show where you could overwrite, and also tell how much it can overwrite before going out of that parts' space and you could supply a goto kludge until you can lock and rewrite the kernel?
geeze, i don't know.. Why can't they do it? This looks like something that should be worked on for 2.6 or 3.0 :)

I doubt babblefish will have the problem, however I don't know how big of a pipe panix has :)

first they need to put up with slashdotters, then put up with the cgi script.. phew! that could be a mega-slashdot.

i think panix might get mad because there're no advertisements on the page. *grin*

Honestly, it's because we're Linux users that we praise good Linux articles, it's just logical.
Also, we are competing with Microsoft. yes, competing. If I was to hear Microsoft praise I can read ZDNN comments :)

Go there and ask them why they like articles that say NT is better than Linux, and could careless if someone writes something about Linux. It's just how people choose to play the game.

But I for one love this article, it's also _true_. It's not that Linux replaced NT because linux only crashed every other day--but because he disabled the reboot buttons because they're not even needed. Stable kernels just made a peice of hardware useless.. :)

We could tout an anti-reset button campaign. >:) That way those who release evil buggy software will have to reconsider.

And BTW, about BSD, it's just friendly fighting. Like GNOME & KDE. BSD & Linux. We all know the Daemon and Tux party together. :)

The stories being trustworthy is a little silly. I mean, alot of slashdots content is linking to credible sites or credible people.

Perhaps they have a point, some of those Journalists might be a little off target on there arrows of truth. Hmm, maybe commercial news sites aren't as trustworthy as we think?

And who here trusted that IETF guy? Or even would have fell for the april fools user friendly gag.

Oh, err, scratch that last one...

anyway, i'm trying to point out that slashdot readers aren't expected to be idiots, we can think; act; and judge, building trusts on there own.

I believe since you have logged into Slashdot you know about the Preferences, from which you can select to ignore stories.

If you don't want to listen to Jon Katz, you don't have to! And if you don't like stories from Wired, i'm sure if there's nothing there to ignore it with, Slashdot could add something.

Suggested addition to Slashdot: A text box delimited by commas where you can ignore stories from addresses like .wired.com. You could poll what people like to ignore and add option on the preferences to ignore that specific site.

But then again, this could already be in the works. But I haven't entirely understood the preferences, just mostly understood.

Oh no, I'm sorry for suggesting that Linus. Send me E-Mail and I'll work on a procmail filter for you, ok? :)
