Lucas is directing episode 2 though, right? Potentially not a good sign, as he handed over the reins to ESB (the best one?) to Irvin Kershner....and on the other hand, Lucas didn't direct ROTJ either...
"Dexter" (really Bryan, I think?) Holland quit grad school (USC) just shy of his dissertation to concentrate on music, so no Ph. D. Would that I had such distractions... Between Offspring, Bad Religion, and the Descendents there are a surprising number of scientist-types in punk (or whatever) rock!
Of course, according to the business reporter on the radio, this deal involves "LIN-icks" and "trans-MAY-tah." Unless this actually is how they are pronounced. I don't usually hear the terms spoken aloud...
Oooh! We had mail-delivering robots at my work that followed trails layed out on the floor. The _tile_ floor. So when part of the floor was torn up for some repair-type reason, and the workers did not put the right tiles back in the right places... ROBOT RAMPAGE! Er, ROBOT CONFUSION! Well, a computer monitor got knocked over anyway. (Must just be something about the postal profession, human _or_ robot)
Create a storage medium that is composed mainly from soda cans, plastic rings from around six-packs, plastic grocery bags, styrofoam food containers, etc. . .
I understand that these things take eons to decompose.
OK, OK, Katz sucks, evolution vs. bible blah blah blah... Never mind all that -- the Russians have ice-9!!! (Well, "congeal" sounds kind of jelly-like, maybe it's ice-6 or 7.) We must all bow down to our new masters before they make the earth all squidgy! Seriously though, what the hell!?
In my experience with luciferase, with bacteria anyway, the glowing effect only lasts for a couple days! Wonder if they have a way to stabilize this (particularly in a, at that point, dead or dying tree) ?
It wasn't a probe, but meteorites of Martian origin (the Shergotty-Nakhla-Chassigny, or SNC meteorites) found in Antarctica that contained miniscule amounts of water. (The same ones that contain hints of possible life too, in fact!) A single drop (!) of water was extracted from one of the SNC's and analyzed. On the other hand, I'm getting this from a Carl Sagan book, maybe he thought it all up while high...;)
So who's this "Mar" anyway? Seems to be pretty gung-ho about space exploration. Good for him!

The solution is simple:
Create a storage medium that is composed mainly from soda cans, plastic rings from around six-packs, plastic grocery bags, styrofoam food containers, etc. . .
I understand that these things take eons to decompose.
