I'm not sure if this is even possible and I'm sure it would be a huge thing to do, but it would also make Microsoft look like heroes. Would it be possible for MS to start a standards organization for hardware that can efficiently execute their proprietary code and start to build a Windows based on that along side with the x86 architecture with plans to switch down the road. Honestly I don't really know, fully, what I'm talking about, but that is why this is more of a question than a statement.
