The main difference is better marketing. Also that there is (theoretically) an end in sight that isn't death, and the promise of land to farm or money to buy said land.

I know a lot of people who feel that way about devices with multiple functions, but yes, I think the market is moving away from the mentality that a product should do one thing and do it well. My theory is that it's part of the whole American consumer mentality of getting "more bang for your buck". Not only are you buying a phone, you are buying an mp3 player, a camera, a wireless e-mail device, a TV, etc. Never mind that it's a terrible camera or you have to be in a very limited area for the internet to work on the phone, because it is cool to have all of those things. A lot of these products are marketed to young people, and as a member of that demographic, I can say a LOT (not all) of us don't really care if the product sucks- for some it's a status thing, and for others, we're just waiting for the next new amazing product to be released.

    Maybe convection currents.

I wish there was fondue on Saturn. Then maybe we'd have more of an incentive to develop better technology and go there to investigate semi-intelligent fondue making organisms.

But don't you have to have a mostly solid(or at least plastic-y like the mantle) surface to have something resembling a volcano?

That doesn't mean you _can't_ openly and honestly debate. We just _aren't_. Not only that, but it isn't encouraged. It's easier to appeal to a demographic if they are all trained to be a demographic through socio-economic class, media influence, stereotypes, etc. Or that's what I think, anyway.

but in 2000 Nader sure was heard. Definitely. And I am glad for the changes he made and his influence, but this year, I quite honestly feel like he is running to be an asshole. Despite his impact on the Democratic Party, he has already discredited Kerry, telling people not to vote for him. I seriously hope Nader isn't heard in this election.
