I don't have proper authorizations to download patches directly and getting the upgrade from tac@cisco has been like pulling teeth. The rep I'm dealing with keeps asking me to give him the name of the file I need. C'mon dude, I just told you I don't have access to your FTP-how the fck am I supposed to know what your file is named? I asked twice if he could refer me to an explanation of their naming scheme and it's as if I'm typing it in invisible ink. I'm asking him to help me answer his questions and he just keeps not responding because he's not getting the answer he wants. This has been going on since around 9:30AM yesterday. I've since re-submitted my tac request and have yet to hear back from anyone. I will have to pull an all-nighter driving between co-lo's because of this when it should have been done by the end of workday yesterday.
This is easy?!?
feel free to moderate as far down as you want, it just feels good to blow off some steam.
WHat was the deal with this movie? It was based on a Japanese story, filmed by Chinese people and shot in India, as I recall. Or some other combination. The "actors" definetely looked Indian though.
There is also a live action LA Blue Girl movie out there somewhere too. I haven't seen it, but I hear all the "molesting tentacle monsters" look straight out of Power Rangers.
The article this thread is in reference to
concerns NYCWireless. There are lots of us
at meetings looking for ways to get involved.
We meet in Murray Hill and hit the bar afterwards.
Come down to this months meeting and I'm sure
you'll find lots of help. I believe there's a
lawyer that attends, he may be able to help you
prepare your arguments.
My friend is a Win Admin and he has had the
opposite experience.
MCSE == "Get Rich Quick" where I am (NYC area)
and the job market is glutted with inexperienced
people eager for a piece of the action. Add this
to the.com decline around here and it's driven
the avg. salary down to almost nothing.
He's got 5+ years of professional experience
under his belt and gets asked questions like:
"Do you have at least 10 years experience with
Windows 2000?" (I swear this is not made up!)
When he said no and explained why this is impossible they hung up on him. They wanted him
to have a CCNA, MCSE, be on call 24 hrs and pay him $30,000 for this!
He was thinking of just caving and getting his
MCSE, but he's got several years of professional
experience and a Master's Degree. In my opinion
it could only tarnish his resume.
From my personal perspective I am sick to death of
dealing professionaly with people who know the
lingo but do not have the skills. (i.e. "Solution Providers", "Infrastructure Architects" , etc)
I make it a point to tell anyone who throws so
much empty jargon at me to "bite me".
I'm no fan of Microsoft, but
M$ did not drop the ball this time.
This was a known vulnerability with
an existing patch that was includes in
Windows update.
Blame neglectful and inexperienced SysAdmins and
the fools who were hoodwinked into hiring them.
Blame the poorly managed comapnies that
undervalue experienced IT workers and sack half
that dept come lay-off time.
When an admin is not vigilant about patches and
auditing no OS is secure.
Admins should be responsible for their own
boxes being compromised and have to shoulder the
accompanying humiliation if their own neglectfulness is revealed .
There are too many weekend-crashcourse MCSE's getting hired for
positions demanding seasoned, experienced admins.
I am hopeful that some of the businesses whose
scans turned up in my logs get wise to the fact
that this exploit exists only as a result of
irresponsibility.
...Of course it may also be that so many IT departments get hit first when it's layoff time.
Some.com's in my area have one admin doing the job of three.
I can't think of a reason that the ibook is better,
aside from it costing half the powerbook's price.
I'm writing this on my G4 titanium running Debian, listening to mp3s and can use my airport card. It's a tuff little laptop.
Of course it's pretty unfair to just assume that all those features just don't work on the ibook.
This person probably just got their ibook and haven't gotten around to setting them up yet.
Another option is to just buy the padded sleeve by itself. I already a heavy-duty backpack that I didn't want to part with, and my computer fits in there and is well protected. I believe the sleeve was made by Jansport. It's a cheap alternative and if a backpack you already have is large enough and it doesn't scream 'i have a computer!'
Dressed like a geek? I beg your pardon, a little help please? How does jeans and a sweater rank? I was wearing a 'DEVO' t shirt under the sweater so I guess that's pretty 'geeky'. Sorry, it seems like all Linuxwear fits me like a dress.
~~girl geeks should try their best to look like ~~the ~~guys--no makeup, no fancy hairstyles, ~~and definitely not the Brittany Spears/Jennifer ~~Lopez look.
...and men should stop trying to dictate the standards of how women should look. (and women should stop trying to get their boyfriends to switch OS's) Okay, i see where you're going here... and being a hysterical and uppity feminist I almost took the bait. Nope, sorry, no makeup here(at least that day)..guess I am just too naturally alluring to ever be taken seriously..after all pretty = vapid;
~~Also, avoid looking like a booth babe at all ~~costs.
I didn't see any 'booth babes' at the Bazaar..it was really nice to talk to real people instead of actors. Luckily I made it downstairs to the eBusinesss expo so I could still play 'stump/heckle the actors':)
~~You may not look ~~attractive this way,
It's a curse. (kidding!)
~~ but at least you'll be respected for what you ~~know--and isn't that the geek game?
Here's where I should go into a discourse about the way things should be, but that's counter productive. It has been said already, and probably better than I could phrase it in this dim pre-coffee hour for me. No one wants to sit through that anyway.
What irks me more is that I am so used to being treated in this manner that it took my date to point it out to me. I've put in about three years in various techie/Jr.sysadmin jobs and before that I worked 3 years in a Comic book store(so don't you tell me what a geek girl is supposed to be like!;) ) . In all these environments I have dealt with all manner of rude & dismissive behavior when trying to assist someone, behavior that was not replicated when this person was assisted by a male.
What's a forum post from lil'ol me gonna change? Probably nothing...but I am not letting such rude behavior off as easily at LinuxWorld! (and perhaps I'll make a point of femm-ing myself up as much as possible-so look out for the uppity chick that looks like she walked out of a Laura Ashley catalog) I imagine for most treating women this way is as unconscious as my not even noticing it...I didn't even find it was exclusive to males. I wonder how many people would be surprised by how they interact if they saw it from an outside perspective?
I dragged my boyfriend along with me on Tuesday and I think seeing RMS speak finally convinced him to make room on one of his winDOH! boxes for a dual boot. Aside from the fact that every person we tried to talk to approached my boyfriend rather than me (he was actually the one to point this out..maybe i'll take this over to LinuxChix;) ) I found it a pretty enjoyable. After reading all the posts, I guess I regret not hitting the Andover party but hey, it's finals season.
Those are text-book bedroom eyes.
meeeyoow.
word. ...and how do you see the display after you've waxed?

"beer in many languages". I have bier,
olut (finnish-it is a linux network after all)
and pombe (swahili)

I'm getting married this year and started a similar project to keep track of who bought what, who RSVP'd, who's been thanked, etc.
Project title? GNUly-Wed
