It can seem intuitive to you, but that doesn't make it so. The ratio of a square to its "diameter" is very easily calculated. What makes a circle different? Which shapes have irrational ratios? Which don't?

And simply using your "infinite line segment" theory, calculus shows us that an infinite series will often produce a finite, rational number.

So, sorry but your intuition is more likely that you knew the answer, and back into it using superficial logic.

I don't think I took offense. I just found it odd that folks were upmodding posts that made no sense at all. If I took offense at anybody, it is those who modded it up. I think it is more indicative of folks not really reading when they are modded. They just see "lotsa long words" and say "wow, that must be smart".

So, no I did not take offense at the posts. He is a troll and a darn good one.

I am not sure whether to despise or marvel at above poster. He consistenly posts drivel yet gets modded up just as consistently. I have read several of his posts where he puts together lengthy words that mean absolutely nothing when put beside each other. Yet, despite being utter non-sense (far beyond an argument that makes no sense, really, truly nonsensical) he gets modded up to +4 and +5.

See this post, which at one time made it to +5 Insightful: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1335281&cid=29052559&art_pos=4. Then go through the rest of his posting history.

Much like a train wreck, I can't take my eyes off of these posts and the ensuing up mods. I think I have answered my own question. This man is a troll. But a damn good one.

And Slashdot should run a query and find anyone who has modded him up. Then they should not only ban these people from modding, but from visiting Slashdot at all.

ZOMG! BIG DEAL! Not really, they simply keep an eye on it, regularly check on it, and write to the credit bureaus every time there is a mix up.

Hi, this is reality talking: "I had a friend who had a negative item on his credit report. JD Byrider, used car dealership, had my friend's loan as a "write off". He showed it to me along with a receipt from JD Byrider showing that he paid it off in a lump sum. I figured, okay easy enough. We went to the dealership, showed them the receipt and the credit report. Dealerships says "we can't help you. the dealership is under new ownership and we can't access old records". Now, this is bullshit, because I guarantee they are still collecting on the old loans. So we file a dispute with the credit bureaus, including the receipt. All said and done, JD Byrider, with their system that cannot access old records tells the bureaus that it was a write-off. Bureau sides with the dealership.

If is a fucked up system. The Bureaus are not there to protect you. They are there to make a profit from their clients, business.

And now, my employer can use this as a disqualification. You write about how you can give all this info to your employer to get yourself in if they require a credit check. The reality is that your employer is going to have a cut-off. 650 or lower, for example, and you are out. You will never find out why. You won't get a chance to defend yourself.
