Not quite what you were asking for, but... I went to have lunch with a friend, that had been gone on travel for a couple weeks. She showed me around the building (ex-top-twenty supercomputer http://www.top500.org/lists/2005/11/basic), introduced me to a Network Specialist. He showed me the "off-limits" areas. I ended up getting an interview that day, and two weeks later I started. I've been here two years now.
