There certainly should be strict guidelines on the advertisement used by politicians and political organizations - with special care as to the rights of the individuals to free speech - as well as a clear deliniation of funding sources, with harsh penalties for violators.
However, I don't see this as going very far,as the politicians themselves have little to gain until they've been bitten by this kind of propoganda. What politician is going to obligingly limit his or her own power?
