Maybe it's just me but doesn't this issue point out that there is a serious lack of education in the US? I mean, how many people don't even have the tools (literacy, critical thinking abilities) to make sense of modern political issues?
I can't remember the last time there was any voting controversy here in Canada. We mark an X in a box next to the candidate's name with a pencil then stuff the ballot into a box. People then count the ballots by hand and will recount if the vote is close. It's simple, and it works very well. It's very easy to work at a polling station or know someone who does (my wife has worked the last 3 elections) so you know how the counts are conducted.
I think that that anyone who wants voting to work a different way might be thinking that they can squeeze an advantage out of it.
