I agree that the LCD projector is a great choice - takes up little space. You can mount it near the ceiling and the receiver/amp/speakers can go most anywhere.
Disadvantages are:
You need a very white wall with few imperfections (or a screen) otherwise that thing hanging out of Frodo's nose is actually forgotten tape on the wall...
Brightness is good, but even the new ones get somewhat washed out with the shades open.
After 2000 hours (milage may vary) you need to change the bulb - which is easy - but the bulbs tend to cost mucho $$$$ (like around $400.00
But the experience is next to being at the movies. Without the loud mouth behind you and you can pause if you need to take care of other matters.
I need new glasses - first time reading it looked like:
"Prize gems include: homeopathic water molecules, shrinking condoms, and a plan to send anesthetic AIDS remedies to Botswana."
Whoa.
The highest rated commercial program for the Mac is iListen (not produced by Apple:-)) A visually handicapped friend is very interested in obtained speech to text software - any slash dotters have experience with the iListen or ViaVoice for the Mac?
Never mind industrial pollution. In China there are great underground coal fires which are producing as much CO2 emissions as all of the motor vehicle traffic in the US

Hmmmm. I have an Epson Expression 1680 with slide adapter and get great results scanning slides. Not as good as a slide scanner, but not unacceptable. Not sure about the 2400 except that it is a bigger number:-), but the 1680 has two focusing modes - one for paper which is held against the glass and another for slides which are in holders a few mm above the glass. One time I didn't set the focus correctly and it did come out fairly bad.
As far as colors go, auto correct does a decent job.
