The numbers are in and it turns out SUVs are NOT safer.
Sure, they're safer in a head-on collision but that's one of the least frequent types of accident. In most other types of accident the SUVs tend to flip over and kill everybody inside. Ref: http://eetd.lbl.gov/ea/teepa/pdf/TRB_Safety_1-03.pdf
Ironically, the feeling of 'safety' also causes more SUV accidents because the drivers take more risks.
2% is massive in monetary value, well yes, it can be, but it's not enough of a deterrent.
I don't think it's meant to be a 'deterrent'. Companies don't have data breaches on purpose, even the best security can be subverted.
This is more to get them to have some security in place and to avoid coverups after it happens, eg. a decent security system doesn't let people take the data home for the weekend so no more 'lost laptops' (hopefully).
Some of us care that religion in government and education and being used to make policy decisions.
If it was only going to church on Sundays and being nice to each other it would be ok. It isn't, it goes beyond that, some of us are actively against that.
All other considerations aside, Jesus said to give away all your personal possessions to the poor, that God will provide. It is harder for a rich man to enter Heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, etc.
Show me a modern Christian who gave away all their possessions and I'll show you a very rare person indeed. Most of them dress up in their finest clothes and jewellery to drive their SUV to church on Sundays.
Ummm, that's just the PCB. The finished Pi has connectors sticking out from all sides. Some of them are about 1cm long. Here's picture proof.
Yeah, it's not like it leaks memory like a BP pipeline.
Used to.
So...can we put this cliche to bed now?
You know how I can tell you didn't watch the video...?

It'll probably flip over...so yes, they might be.
If you watch the video it says "easier to get in/out of when folded" so I guess it folds with you inside it.
Its credit card sized.
It certainly doesn't look like it in that video.
But... I found some dimensions here: http://www.pyrosoft.co.uk/blog/2012/01/15/raspberry-pi-measurements-dimensions/
More like "playing card size" than "credit card size" but yeah, you could probably make a box not much bigger than a smartphone. My bad.
The plus side being that Raspberry Pi costs only $25... If you already have an external drive with media on it, then it's a bargain.
Yes, but why? You just spent thousands on your TV, sound system, storage devices, etc. Why can't you spend more than $25 on the media player?
It has an H.264 hardware decoder.
Yep, I get that. A normal ARM isn't capable of decoding H264 so the Pi must have hardware and they must be using it.
So why is the video only 8fps? That's a factor of four slower than what's needed for an HTPC. Something is seriously wrong.
HTPC in your pocket
For some strange definition of "pocket" - it's hardly USB-stick sized.
I'm not even sure it's smaller then existing HTPCs.
I'm not sure I fully understand this yet:
You're willing to spend a few thousand on a big TV and sound system but the media player can only cost $25?
Somebody please explain it to me...
Can the hardware really only manage 8-10 frames/sec. or is that their software?
Sure...so long as you're happy with video at eight frames/sec.

Where do I sign up to vote "yes please"?
(which I didn't hear because I keep the sound shut off on this computer).
You're lucky. She's got an annoying grating voice to boot...I've got sound and I turned it off.
Apple makes more money from its smartphone than every other smartphone manufacturer in the world combined.
The top-selling smartphones in the US last quarter were, in order: iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS.
And the tablet market? Let's call it what it is - the iPad market.
Sure, but Android has 100 models where Apple has 3.
If you add them all up it's outselling the iPhone.
Wouldn't it be amazingly cool if slashdot linked to articles with the actual pictures in them?
Radical thinking, I know...but just imagine the possibilities!

Try reading it again ... an awful lot of them were threatening physical violence.
That's hypocrisy, not atheism.

Hitler definitely believed in astrology and prophecy, among other things.
His religion might not have a neat recognizable label and accompanying book but he certainly believed in higher powers.
Remind me again why they needed SOPA to shut down websites. I forgot...
Remind me again what SOPA was needed for...? I forgot.
Words to the effect, "We thought the banks could make decisions that were best for them - how wrong we were!"
Huh? The banks most definitely did make decisions that were best for them.
