I don't know about that man... I've seen my fair share of IDIOTIC comments on Slashdot.
Who gets off on actually taking the time to mod an image posting such blasphemy, and even worse, who would post it on an IT News Site without verifying the claim?? Obviously some of the moderators here fall into what I would consider the "idiotic" category, as the only justification for posting such a story would be for rising geeks with little experience to see the horrors of using an MS product.. it's ridiculous.
Time and again I find myself reading Slashdot posts from the open-source community which are c0nstantly trying to find ways to bash M$ in order to "show people the light"... The fact of the matter is, BS like this only hurts the community's credibility.
If you ever hope to counter M$ arguments against open-source's TCO then you have to stop with this shit and actually devel a better product. Right now, the sad truth is, M$ is simply unrivaled even by *nix in the workstation and corporate/business markets. The software for *nix systems simply isn't there or hasn't evolved enough to make it a financially wise decision for many to make the switch. Sure, open-source has made huge inroads in the server market, and with the Mozilla Foundation - but your baseless bashing serves no purpose other than to discredit the community as a whole.
I believe it explicity states in Microsoft's EULA that reverse-engineering of their products is prohibited... I would have to say that WINE definitely falls into this category (even more so if it uses MS' DLLs though I do not know the dynamics of how WINE actually works). I don't think you guys have the slightest hope of any legal action against MS. I always scoffed at the Linux people telling me that I could still use a list of apps that haven't been developed for Linux (or come close to the usability of apps on Windows) via Wine... I knew it was only a matter of time before MS cracked down on this.
I wonder if this has any implications for Cedega? It's hard to make a compelling argument to use Linux for any gamer either it's so much trouble I'd much rather pay the $80-150 (or even less if you're a student) License for XP any day. Though your dedicated to Open Source is still quite comendable no doubt! I think Linux's success will continue to be in the Server sector... but still has a very, very long way to go as a feasible Desktop OS for most.
