'a modest proposal' is not a generic name. it is named after a short satirical writing by jonathan swift ("gulliver's travels," etc.), in which a person proposes to solve social ills by eating children...
WHAT???? the notion that disposable computers are a bad idea because they will *contribute* to waste is completely absurd. just consider the ramifications of creating computing so cheap that it becomes DISPOSABLE; computing would become UBIQUITOUS!!! i sympathize with the underlying concerns with a "'disposable' culture," but honestly, how pessimistic and cynical can one be? our waste production won't increase at all; we'll just have smarter garbage. even if it DID increase, should computers be made artificially expensive and rare out of the fear that they may add to the garbage heap?
