OSS? What is it? Does it mean that Symantec will produce/improve OSS software and all related patents that will be registered (thanks to your taxes) will be released to public too?
Or is it that you sponsor OSS but proprietary software and further patnet vault of privately held corporations?
Is it good to "sponsor" privately held company in the field where it figths with conmpetition?
They simply found out that OSS developers don't obey the patents and it is expensive to sue them. So they will create nice tool that even you can easily find that you are writting patented piece of code... It will save lot of money on lawyers because many people will start to obey low once they know they are breaking it.
Despite the bobastic title of this article it looks like the open source made giants to improve the tools to allow people to perform better self-control.
And I ensure you that these things are more evil then the most evil cookie monster:-) Because people seeking for cookies will not check this things that theoretically may do the job well...;-)

Great news. I'm developing the exclusive CMS based on Mozilla platform. And DELL customers are usually smart enouht to find the way how to run Firefox once it is already installed...;-)
This small step is much better then nothing, right?
Dictionary or not... ask me why do I have windows box at home. Do you know why? Because rest of the world uses word docs and powerpoint docs... and yes, OpenOffice is good but not 100% compatible and sometimes it is not simply wise to risk and make PPTs in OpenOffice if you need to make really important ppt presentation.
And one more thing. If I would be microsoft I would hire some PR company that will write such as articles like this one to show that M$ is not a threat - it is not monopoly, it is simply fair company that plays fair with the competition...:-) The mood of customers can hurt M$ as well as the competition. (And I'm not saying that the autor is hired by M$)
Simply, dictionary or not - Microsoft is a monopoly. Otherwise, believe me, I would not have a WinBox at home!

Are there some secrets that will keep my Firefox stable?;-)
I will learn new way of typing if I'm sure that every other keyboard supports the new "standard".
Patenting the layout (how the new 53 key keyboard) does not help spreading the new keyboard.
But generally I'm fine with QWERTY. I'm fast typing and the only problem I have is the Emacs key bindings - especially the ALT+CTRL+SHIFT layout on standard keyboard... 10 hours of typing in Emacs kills my thumbs;-)
For now I will say NO to the new PANTENTED 53KEY LAYOUT. I'm afraid that by patenting it the creator sentenced it to death before selling it.
They are trying to steel the right to live and not be watched by government... Do you think that the next rules will not follow?
1. Retain data for two years - IS HERE Will come: 2. Retain content of e-mails and other content for 2 years. 3. Encrypted transmition is forbidden. 4. IPv6 will identify you securely - no anonymous proxies anymore!
I hope that smart brains that will be one step in front of BigBrotherGoverning eye will survive.
At least somebody realized that the web technologies are great integration platform. (I regret that this technology that we use in our administration of our CMS was announced first by google and not us:-))
It will only confuse the customers. How can you trust to the anti-virus scanner taht is downloaded over the web? How will the user know that this is not the real virus pretending to be on-line anti-virus?
Download this plugin here to play flash, that plugin there to access e-bank, that plugin over there to be secured against viruses, download here the virus to have all your data deleted... download download download - it will make people used to click on every "ACCEPT" button that pops-up.
"Click here to download and scan your computer against the viruses!" - It reminds me something - isn't it the way how the malware tries to sneak in your PC already?:-))
I'm afraid that it will create just bigger security problem in hands of internet users who are not tech-savvy...!
:-) Decreasing the momory footprint is fine. But for the start I would be happy to don't see the message "out of memory" when downloading 30kB XUL code for my administration;-)
I prefer for the start bugfree Gecko that is consuming lot of memory. For me it is better to buy new memory then delay the development of my XUL CMS.
If I do write virus that I call "DRM kit" that will spread without your knowledge and install without your knowledge onto your computer and the only purpose of this virus will be to hide itself and search your disk for unauthorized copies of my application I created... is it OK? Will I do something against the law? I'm going to protect my property! Just this and nothing else! RIAA will backup me! And if I make some "programming error" that will allow my DRM kit to act as a trojan horse.. ups! Errors happen...
:-) Sure. Business is just about making money. The money you will make is virtually taken from your competiors. The money that you will not make is virtualy left to your competitors... Who are the google's competitors?:-) Maybe in your wet dreams the Google is "M$-Honey" but in real it is "M$-Killa", "BigBlue-Killa" as well as "Yahoo-Killa" and "Skype-Killa"... and anybody-else-killa if your are making enough money (or influence or growth potential) to be noticed (googled). It's just a business... it is not about your wet dreams at all... Sorry.
It can be the container with label "inetOffice" as well as container with label "iPhone" or "Toilet"... if you like. But definetly it will hurt competitors (remember? if google earns money some other competitor virtualy looses it). I gues one of the main aims is M$;-) That's (just) my guess.
Maybe they will put the label "InternetOffice" on it and place this "black box" to your nearest peering point so you'll have access to your on-line remote office applications built on the top of Mozilla with excelent speed that M$ will not be able to beat...
Maybe they decided to give a new dimension to the old term "boxed software"?;-))
Google, Microsoft, Wall-Mart, Nestle... all of them are the same - they tend to grow too much. As the Nestle grown behind the Europe and Google grown behind the USA all became a real threat to small businesses in its segment... And wors think is that super-large corporations try to "diversificate" the risks by expanding (better "attacking") unrelated segments of business.:-) War of monopolies. The bad news for us: there will be less and less monopolies as the globalization expands.
Huge companies has too much money so they can buy all the important konwledge (I mean patent it) and thus prevent you from being succesfull. How you will climb up if they patented the rope and even the idea of "generic way going up";-)
I see google becames the same threat as microsoft is (or any other superdominant company).
