What we have here is an ethernet card (essentialy) that is not compatible what so ever with any other ethernet card in the world. Its nice to see some speed increases comming out of the wireless industry, However the use of FULL spectrum cards sickens me. about the time u run ur microwave or use ur spiffy new 2.4 ghz cordless anywhere near it, u start getting tons of interfearance. I would recommend sticking with lynksys if u want a cheap solution, (altho its DSSS for home use) however if u want somthing that u and 10 of your freinds can use in the same room at the same time without interferance issues, id go get a FHSS card, like breezecoms.
It is hardly theisable to setup a wireless network with lynksys with wireless internet. It is however entire possible to do this with other manufactures gear. For example in Minnesota MANY cities have a partial deployment of wireless internet, and a few have FULL deploymen, the city of mankato (the home of MSU mankato state university) has 100% of its city wired. In Minnesota, you can drive from Midstate, to northern iowa without ever getting off the internet. ericc@xtratyme.com
Anyone living in the southern half of minnesota and northern iowa can have wireless broadband. a person in that region can drive from norther iowa (soiux valey area) to willmar (north central MN) a near 300 mile trip without ever getting off the internet the whole time reciving cable/dsl speeds.
sure, you need a few hundred dolars worth of equipment. The cost is little more than a nice dsl/cable modem and is completely portable.

I think this gentleman is great at highschool level mathematics, but lacks any experiance in dealing with wireless networks, they are not near as cumbersome as he makes them out to be.
Perhaps this gentleman should stick to wired networks, maybe recalculating the maximum lenght of cat5.
He Should Have Bought The Extended Warranty.

This wireless phenominon is nothiong new to me being that i work for a wireless internet provider. And 50$ a month is a bit high for internet service. our average speeds deliver 350+k a second, basic wireless beats the pants off most dsl/cable modems, it is really cool to be able to drive anywhere in a 250 mile radius and never have to get off IRC.:) Anyone who would like to know more about wireless service can contact me @ secretive26@hotmail.com
