Of course, the other companies shouldn't be throwing stones either. Still, they seem to know when to back off. Either that or they're more adept at buying off the tech press. I dunno which.
They don't just buy off the tech press (if they do that). They also buy off the political parties and presidents. Maybe MS has made donations since, but counter-offers aren't as bad as those who started it in the first place, and at least voters knew Dubya's views about the case, whereas 1996 voters didn't know about the anti-trust plans of the parties.
BTW, Gore hasn't seemed to have supported the suit. Was he happy to have his invention integrated into Windows?
Sun and Oracle charge monopoly prices, and used the anti-trust laws to try to regain their monopoly positions. If MS's ability to compete with Sun and Oracle is harmed, maybe it'd be worthwhile doing something about Sun and Oracle's price-fixing.
If you're working on your own, then you may want to use routines zalloc, zfree, etc. that call the usual malloc, free, etc. , except that it asks for a larger chunk of memory and have at the edges magic numbers that you can check don't change. You can also get these routines to keep track of how much has been asked for and freed.
It may mean your code needs changing before being released into the world, but at least it is platform / compiler independent. And if it's a toy / prototype / uni assignment then efficiency isn't an issue and you can leave it in.
Many fields of endevour only have a few players, which can be as bad as only one company. The airline situation in Australia is far worse than the software industry in America, yet it has two big players.
At the least, Microsoft would be equivalent to trying to get into the MP3 market too vigorously, rather than trying to kill off MP3s.
And if you wanted to delve deeper, what about the competing OSs? The copyright holder of one OS holds the copyright of a lot of the software that runs on the OS, and another OS dominates (at least until recently) the hardware markets the OS runs on (and owns some other software as well).
Maybe. I'm from Australia. Maybe they thought I was from Austria (which isn't too popular at the moment) or Afganistan (which isn't too popular full stop).:P
You ought to get a moderated up for that post. That was cool!
Bill Gates supporting other disabled people?

One-Handed Linux?

How many people think that Window's got features for the disabled because he's disabled himself (most people reckoned he has Aspergia Syndrome at a recent discussion here)?
Or is there a more prosaic explanation...?
Andjam Under P.C. UNIX, we'd have nothing disabled, merely differently abled...
A tendency to have escorts/prostitues: Wally in the first episode of Dilbert (phone sex) Joxer the Mighty from "Xena: Warrior Princess" (with Xena look-a-like Meg and possibly an entire brothel later on run by her) Einstein (had escorts during his second marriage)
that would explain Bill Gates being into prostitutes/whatever before marriage (I have a harder time believing that he smoked Marujana than that he was into prostitutes)
Sometimes have relationships with co-workers. Dilbert with Leena: Warrior Engineer Wally in post-acopylitic hell workplace? Tim Fischer (Australian politician with an autistic son) married another person in the same political party Einstein married a fellow student in his first marriage?
that would explain his marrying another MS worker (though being a workaholic may be another explanation)
We have a tendency to steal: Jar Jar Binks tried to steal fish Joxer the Mighty was into stealing (comment in "Callisto", also had tried to "liberate" chickens in another episode)
The main reason why I don't regard Windows as stealing from Mac was because it was hot property anyway.
Bill Gates' main crime is that he is functioning waaay to highly.
If the plantiffs can prove that WOTC were counting on kids buying packs to try to get rare cards to sell rather than because they're interested in the cards, then they deserve what they get.
If people are leaving the NSA for private companies, wouldn't the NSA worry that they may try to take the technology with them? I know that would come under official secrets act (although that is designed to protect officials, not secrets in "Yes Minister") or whatever, but it's a bit late after the event.
Also, if NSA could break PGP or had a proof that NP != P, wouldn't that info be valueable to private companies?

Larry Ellison can take out the garbage...

Say you say something defamatory and get sued for $100B. So what? Do you have any money to give to them?
The only threat is if they intimidate the ISP, and if neo-nazis and the KKK can find ISPs, I hardly see M$-bashers having difficulties.

... And see if it lets you get away with it.
One of the few anti-competitive (or too competitive?) measures undetected by judge or janitor.
One of the others is that Bill Gates uses hired goons to trash out other companies, thinly fictionalised in "The Simpsons".

Shame on you you raincoat-wearer! No wonder you were an "anonymus coward". More like anonymus Wayne - oh, car accident. Righto.
I assume the way to offend a person with only one arm would to call them a forehead typist.
Forehead typist? This guy typed out an entire thesis using a pencil taped to his forehead.
Andjam
I have written an essay on Jar Jar having AS if you guys want it.
Andjam
Jar Jar Binks, Joxer the Mighty (from "Xena: Warrior Princess") and Bill Gates are probably the biggest victims of "Kill XXX" interactive web pages.
And they all have Aspergia Syndrome.
Anyone else (especially those with Aspergia Syndrome) find that worrying?

I feel that it is a useful term, as I needed speech therapy when I was young and was bullied at school.
While it's not correct to label techies as having AS, it's probably OK to describe *stereotypical* techies as being like that.

Ah, but we do! The charges are different, though: trying to gain a market monopoly.
