I really didn't mean they should add a flashlight (they don't in cell phones), but merely wondered if the light was enough to accomplish such a feat; people always find odd uses for stuff that wasn't made for such things. It would be quite awkward to use, but better than nothing in an emergency.
It's kinda like this: we didn't add a feature to Harley-Davidson motorbikes so they trigger senstive car alarms when they go by, but somehow they still accomplish that feat occasionally:)
Nice ideas, but for you last question: she wants light even when there's no light outside (like outside your car on a dark, cold night).
I wonder if the bag can be used as a makeshift flashlight (much like cell phones) if you open its "mouth" on something in the dark. Find both the keys AND the keyhole in one swoop!
Same thing happened for Madagascar. The first explorers asked the natives for the name, but the translator messed up when asking, and the answer "Madagascar" actually referred to mainland Africa. I can only imagine the confusion that insued later.
I'm an Italian programmer, you insensitive clod!
P.S. It is true that I am, and it is also true that most italian programmers are lousy... I think I'm still amused by your remark, but I'm too confused to be sure...
Some psycholiguists (like Marvin Minksy and Pinker) do argue that the ability to use language is not learned, but an ability of the brain much like sight (only the language that you happen to use is learned).
There is some data to suggest that as I mentioned, but nothing definitive I suppose.
Fact is, the brain keeps developing after the baby is born, so even if you're perfectly normal but blindfolded (or in the dark) for you first few years, you won't be able to ever see "normally". Same goes for some other complex brain functions, like using language.
One of those funny facts that stick with you from college classes:)
I'm not so sure that people bling from birth will benefit from any such device. That part of their brain is not even developed, you can't just "plug in" some video feed and expect them to see, do you?
That exactly the kind of reasoning I was talking about. I ignore the media (I'd rather study science), but you ignore the scientific community. I was brought up Catholic (though I'm not anymore), but guess what, even the Pope has nothing against evolution.
You are free to think what you want: it's not the scientists trying to apply censorship to religion (they just happen to disagree on some matters), it's the other way around.
It keeps happening! The "PC" culture of this country keeps destroying what's left of the free thought that was painfully conquered a long time ago (I'm not even going to go into free speech).
It's a battle on two fronts: the religious lobbyist that do things like hindering the teaching of science in schools, and the large corporations that would do anything not to offend anyone for fear of losing a few bucks.
How do they get away with it? Why don't people say "oh this is horrid, no more IMAX for me". We just can't be bothered anymore: the PC rants (if you say something controversial YOU are at fault), the lack of any real political debates (besides minor economical and odd moral-related issues) since the outlawing of Communism and any other non-majority view, and of course the the vultures of the media that keeps feeding on this whole thing (WHY show that piece about "evolution is just a theory" over and over?).
I'm an European, and I have no voice in what the American people decide to do, but it's their lack of action and ignorance of the issues at hand that makes me heed this warning: how soon until the free-flying politicians and corporations will do all they wish while you're too busy watching TV? You may have these comfy lives forever, with no blood or guilt on your own hands, but one day you may find yourselves unwilling free citizens of what you yourself would name an "evil empire" if you were on the other side.
The "Malicious Software Removal Tool" is actually a different software altogether. It just checks for a few virii/worms, not spyware.
Man, it's hard to find a good troll nowadays (or is it?) :)
