  1. He did a great disservice to amateur astronomy on Jack Horkheimer, 'The Star Hustler,' Dies At 72 · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Well, it's the image of amateur astronomy that he did a disservice to. When I mention to friends or family that I'm into astronomy, it's unfortunate that they think of this guy in a polyester suit.

  2. How many CAPTCHAs are there, really? on Scalpers Earned $25M Gaming Online Ticket Sellers · · Score: 1

So there were only hundreds of thousands of unique CAPTCHA images in use? Pretty lame, if it's true.

  3. I think it looks like a bunny rabbit. on Sky Watchers Want Recognized a Newly Described Type of Cloud · · Score: 1

I think it looks like a bunny rabbit.

  4. Vibration? on Boeing 747 Modified To Act As Infrared Telescope · · Score: 1

Can someone please explain how airborne telescoped deal with all the vibration? I mean, I spill my drink every time I fly.

  5. Backup format on Windows Home Server Details · · Score: 1
I was amused by Thurrott's comment about swapping drives:
One final point about WHS storage. Were you to pull a drive out of WHS and try to access the disk from another Windows-based PC, that system would see the disk as standard NTFS. So it will work anywhere, though of course the backups are written in a proprietary data format.
    Of course.
That's like saying "This cell phone will work anywhere -- as long as it's on Cingular".
  6. Uh, that would be "Democratic" on Democrats May Promise Broadband for All · · Score: 2, Insightful

This "Democrat Party" name is a very clever idea whipped up by Republicans. This way, they can subtly imply that the Democratic Party is not really Democratic. I'm proud to say that most members of the "Democrat Party" don't stoop to this kind of newspeak.

  7. What about digital SLR's? on New System to Counter Photo and Video Devices · · Score: 1

I don't think this will stop my digital SLR. The sensor isn't exposed except when the mirror flips up for a very short period during exposure. I doubt if it's possible (or at least simple) to seek out and blind the camera in this short interval.

Since most pro photographers (who are using digital) use this kind of a camera, it won't stop many of them. It'll just stop the amateurs who compose their picture while staring at the LCD screen on their point-and-shoot digitals. And, of course, it will stop video cameras.
