Hubble will find life is my personal guess. That and Hubble doesn't kill people, which means it's essentially useless to the lot running things now. With more than half of the budget going to "defense" spending, the quest for knowledge takes a back seat, like so many other things, such as the elderly, social and racial inequality, and the pursuit of hapiness.

I think the point is that technology is increasingly established as being proof by people who don't know how to do anything but point and click. So long as the police keeps using digital evidence as you have assured I suppose things are going to be just fine, superb, but please refer to the Patriot Act.

This cannot be allowed to be considered evidence in any criminal case. We all know that software exists to place people in places they aren't.

I recently got an invitation from Guru.com to join a project that would create software that could insert a preloaded video clip into a live video stream in real time. Such software could only be used for false incrimination.

While child pornography is a terrible crime, governments must take care to ensure that such clips are not legal evidence, but used as "hints" in investigations.

While I don't profess to be a Linux admin, like you do on your website, it seems to me that linux could be set up to detect such a device. Hence the operating system would have some sort of bearing on whether or not a hardware keylogger was effective. No doubt the OS is notified when KB support disappears (or could easily be set up to regularly ping the device) and then refuse to read from the device after reinsertion, or notify the user that the KB was unplugged. This is just one example where the OS has a bearing on this issue. If you need more Danny just let me know, I'll cook up something for you.

Had the school system used a secure computing environment, such as Linux, and not that piece of crap Windows then this sort of thing wouldn't happen. A little education of the teacher on good security practices would serve the cause better than 180 days in jail for a child.

All I know is that no instructors at my university where I am a graduate student know and/or use Java. But they DO teach vi. Computer science departments around the country are suffering from not only an aging staff, but a staff that is overwhelmingly trained in only Microsoft products. It's not anti-intellectualism to recognize that you don't need to go to some school that your daddy went to in order to be able to write whippin' code, it's anti-establishment. And we're proud of our anti-establishmentarianism, right?

In today's climate, the job you're looking for can only be obtained if you already have a "network" of people who are ready to get you the job. These jobs are being outsourced to India, where those companies in this industry don't have to pay a living wage. And this looks to continue well into the forseeable future. I recommend you keep your passion, as I have, but pursue something that will get you employed. I recommend academia.
